My son graduated on 10/1/2021. He is supposed to attend A School in Pensacola. He has been holding at Great Lakes for 6 weeks, and no one will tell him anything about his status. Why isn't someone informing him of his status?

How often do they start a new group in A school? Is it every week like boot camp?

Just wondering because my son is stuck in THU and may not get to Goose Creek before things start up in January.

We are trying to think ahead about plans for Christmas, anticipating it's likely our future sailor will be in nuke A school at that time. We anticipate him getting to A school around Thanksgiving but it's all in flux right now, waiting on his security clearance.
We are trying to figure out whether it would be doable to go visit him there during his "free days" off so that he doesn't have to use his leave to come home.
A few specs:
We have about a 12 hour drive to Goose Creek so it's doable and driving is more affordable than flying 4 of us.
So here are my primary questions:
Are there specific days that are given off from A school at Christmas?
How much liberty would he have to leave the base during that time?
Any recommendations on where we could/should try to stay? We would probably look into renting a house for the 5 of us if he's able to leave the base.
Thanks for any tips/info! Questions on staying at Great Lakes after PIRtag:navydads.com,2017-03-17:2150375:Topic:4913672017-03-17T01:43:30.492ZMichael P Tatuhttps://navydads.com/profile/MichaelPTatu

My son's program has him staying at Great Lakes for 3 weeks after PIR. From what I understand, he will need 4-5 hours to move/report in to the other side of the base. Will he be able to take his Cell phone so he can contact us when he is done? Will he have Liberty on Saturday and Sunday. My wife and I are currently planning on staying until Monday so we can maximize the time with him over the weekend.

I'm new to this site, so I hope this is a repeat post.

Our son is currently at "A" school at NAS Pensacola. We are planning a trip to visit him once he reaches phase 3, and is able to leave for the weekend. It is my understanding that we will have to sign him out, and be his liberty buddy for the weekend.

My question is: what is the procedure for this? Do we enter the base at the regular gate for visitors, or do we have to go somewhere else? I tried googling everything I can think of, with no…

My daughter got her orders today and she is to report to the John C. Stennis. My guess is that the Stennis will be deployed sometime early next year. She is currently "undesignated" due to some problems that occurred in her A-School.

I have plenty to say about that in that she was disciplined for something quite minor while others got away with a great deal more. I am VERY disappointed in the instructional culture of the A-School in San Antonio. I think something has to be wrong…

I have plenty to say about that in that she was disciplined for something quite minor while others got away with a great deal more. I am VERY disappointed in the instructional culture of the A-School in San Antonio. I think something has to be wrong when 22 sailors are sent to Captains Mast/NJP. She was put on 30 days restriction, lost her rate (MA), and lost two months pay.

As I understand it, she and the others were made an example of. It's unfortunate that the Command let things get so lax that they had to make these kids pay like they did. My opinion or the U.S. Navy is quite low right now. All of that said, I am hopeful that she can make the best of this and eventually strike for a rate that she wants. Any advice that you can give me on this would be appreciated.
A schooltag:navydads.com,2014-09-22:2150375:Topic:4029212014-09-22T09:47:36.145ZDavid W Fosterhttps://navydads.com/profile/DavidWFoster
