Our son just enlisted and his fiancée just received a packet about his graduation date. I have several questions about it so we can book flights early etc.

How "firm" are those dates? I realize it depends on if he passes but other than that, are they good dates? It seemed strange that we were told 8-9 weeks but it is only 7.5 weeks according to the information she received.

We were told by his recruiter that he can get a weekend pass (liberty) for the Sat/Sun of his graduation weekend. Is this true (not everything we've heard from the recruiting office has panned out)? Is this something he has to apply for? Odds of receiving one (again, so we know if we should fly back on Sat or Monday)? I've heard some things about "Grad and Go" and "Grad and Stay" but it's sketchy.

Best Hotels to stay at (balance of nice but reasonably priced) for graduation?

Thanks for any information

Here's the situation. My daughter is 17 and will be into A school before shes 18. USAA was recommended for banking but we just got off the phone with them. They won't open an account for anyone under 17. How did you parents with 17 year olds handle this?

My son recently entered boot. We received a letter or two now, and he is due to graduate May 21st.

He is in (on) th Arizona. Funny, when I was in boot (70's) we just had company numbers....different today, which I guess is good.

Anyway, I have such mixed emotions. Pride, disbelief, and all that goes with a son entering the military.

Son is in Ship 10 (USS Enterprise) Div 173, He called this evening chatting about stuff in general. He was Flag 2 but is now flag 5, has 8 men behind him while marching. They won an academic flag... all flags are,of course, earned. He still thinks his division isn't very good but they're catching up.

He and another recruit had to stand watch while rest of division got to phone home the other day so they both got a little extra time to call home on Easter Sunday, a reward for standing watch. Not looking forward to the tear gas but is itching to run battle stations. He got yelled at for not swimming properly, He's always swam head up, but still aced it, I think he has gills he's so good at swimming.

The one wife and I noticed immediately was the confidence in his voice, he'd waver at times just chatting, no more, he was clear and direct. Such a difference in just shy of a month, I can only imagine how well he does after 2 months. We'll see Apr 30
