Navy Dads

Hello all,
Our recruit is entering his 5h week at RTC. He is slated for graduation on September 30th. We have made our arrangements to attend PIR and become more anxious with every passing day.
He is going to be headed to Conn for A School with a rate of FT, we feel fortunate as we live just 2.5 hours north of this location.
Can anyone give us the details of how long A school is?
Do they stay at this location for B School as well?
Just trying to get a handle on how long we will have him close to home before he is out of driving range.

Yes, I know I am looking very far ahead, but with him gone for 5 weeks I find myself trying to do as much research as I can to have a better understanding of what may lie ahead.

Thanks
G

From our Ratings page...

Career Path After Recruit Training

Enlistees are taught the fundamentals of this rating through on-the-job training or formal Navy schooling. Advanced technical and operational training is available in this rating during later stages of career development.

Basic Enlisted Submarine School, (BESS) Groton, CT. 4 weeks of indoctrination in basic submarine systems.

Class "A" Technical school and specialty pipeline school, Groton, CT. 27-33 weeks of basic electricity, electronics and computer technical knowledge and skills and preparation for combat systems specialties and assignment on a fast attack or ballistic missile submarine.

After "A" school and Basic Enlisted Submarine School, Electronics Technicians (FT)’s are assigned to serve on all types of submarines and at shore facilities in the United States and overseas. During a 20 year period in the Navy, FT’s spend about 60 percent of their time assigned to fleet units and 40 percent to shore stations.
Note: All applicants must read and understand the Submarine Volunteer Statement of Understanding

We have a Navy Sub School group....but it has not been very active. Other members have suggested the Facebook page for more information post PIR...

For the Facebook group, search "SUB SCHOOL-B.E.S.S.& A SCHOOL GROTON CT US NAVY".

I found the link...you will need to join the Facebook group for access...
