Wel, it's not my daughter (that would be tough to bear) but my son is there right now in BC. His biggest complaint is boredom...thought they would be doing more, especially in the first 3 weeks. He's in day 4-3 (week 4, day 3) and is scheduled to go through PIR on Dec 4. We bought our tickets last night. My son actually looks forward to the intensive and physical training because it makes the day go by faster. He actually enjoys the 4-hour ship watch at 4am in the morning too. That's strange because my kid can really sleep! Take care and try not to worry. After the first few days, she'll establish a routine which will help her get through this. Terry
Im more worried about the Navy... Daughter is a brilliant child, (20 yr old ) but cant remember to turn in homework she actually might have done! god help us all... Her MOS is computers which makes me a lil less scared, she might never see ship duty... But I personally want her to get the full effect of Navy life.... All I ever wanted was for my kids to have an easier life than I did..... I just dont think she's taking that route....
Im sure she will do well, maybe even exceed expectations... but Im still dad and she could end up anywhere doing puters!
well...my daughter's PIR was in Oct '05 and my son's was in Apr '07 so have been down this road twice...once with each flavor. Son or daughter, the experience is a good one for our kids...she may be forgetfull now, but I can say, with 100% certainty, that by her PIR her memory will be much improved.......

We tend to worry more and are more fearful of the expereince than our sailors are...keep the faith, be positive, get her address after she ships to Great Lakes and start those letters. Go through the old posts in the Bootcamp group....there are about 1500 of them that detail what to expect...you'll see all recruits go through essentially the same learning experience....what have I done....I can't take this...this is pretty cool....I'm learning to be part of a team...I'm a sailor in the US Navy!!!
Boot is only 30 mns from the house..... and from what I understand she'll be staying at great
lakes for C school ( I think thats what she called it) She' close nd will be home off and on during computer school.... she doesnt drink smoke or anything like that so Im hopeful that this will be a great experience....

Thanks....
Hi Clay, Welcome to the club. I'm Paul from Long Beach, MS. My 22yr old daughter is in boot camp as we speak with a Grad date of 30 Dec09. I know a couple people that were in the computer field in the Navy. They are always in high demand with the way technology changes every day. If you haven't seen them yet check out the video's, especially the "new boot camp 1 of 2 AND 2 OF 2. I really enjoyed them, it help put me at ease. Its not the old school boot camp anymore.
Based on your experience how Colddddddddd will it be by the end of DEC?
Oh I understand the not your boot camp... the recruiter says they dont even make them run in combat boots anymore... my question is what the hell will they do when they have to? oh well shit changes.... m sure she'll be fine, but the navy may never be the same.....
My son is headed to Boot Camp on Dec 2nd also. He is scheduled for Corpsman school after basic. Do you know when thier PIR will be????
I'll let ya know soon as I know, but figure the 9th week from induction.....
my son left about an hour ago he will be at boot camp dec 2 i never thought this was going to be this hard for me
Barry - My son left at 1pm today - our family is taking it pretty hard too! he reports Dec 2. We are all proud of him and he "was" excited ~ now just nerves!!

My son shipped yesterday, too. He arrived at mid-night (east coast time), 11 their time. He had been up since 4 am yesterday morning. MEPS was a mess; 120 kids shipped, 100 were marines. My son was one of 4 Navy that shipped. I remember going through it in 1976. But I have to admit, this was the hardest thing I have ever done. Now I know how my folks felt.
Clay, that seems to be classic for bright/ADHD kids. My son was notorious for doing the homework and not turning it in. My son is going to be a linguist...2 years school in Monterey, CA.
