My daughter heads for boot camp next saturday and then to lackland for her MA school. Does anybody know usually what her first assignment could be? Are they put on ship first or could a land base be in the picture? Any help would be appreciated.

Daughter is at "a" school. Should graduate in Dec. Hopes to get picked for military working dogs. Hopes to pick her orders maybe next week. Have to wait and see what she gets.
My daughter graduated A school around June of 2014. She chose PRP (Harbor Patrol) in Silverdale, WA. She has been there for over a year and likes it. She had PRK surgery (eye surgery) and was off the boats for about a month. She really missed it. She just got back to the boats last week and loves it. The hours suck, but now that some "issues" have been resolved, hopefully they won't suck as bad. She's hoping to get our to the fleet for her next assignment.
I understanding that initial assignment to your duty station is dependent on the needs of the Navy and your preferences with the needs of the Navy being first and foremost. What would be the typical tasks for a new recruit just out of "A" school?
Depending upon Caitlin's choice of orders, she will take up security posts. This may include guarding bases, ships, or ports. Basically, she will be a Navy policewoman, tasked with enforcing military law. If she ends up on a land base, she would patrol (roving) the base or stand guard at the gates. Specialties include Expeditionary....much more "reactionary" training involved....and a lot of travel. She could also get into MWD (Military Working Dogs). She could end up as a compliment of Ship's Security on a Naval vessel. There are many possibilities open to her...
PRP (Personal Reliability Program is a 3-year tour that counts as sea duty. My daughter is a boat captain in Harbor Patrol. She drives a boat in the harbor guarding the harbor (I won't say WHAT she's guarding because of OPSEC). She loves driving the boats. She's hoping for Harbor Patrol in San Diego for her next station. I think she wants to stay Harbor Patrol. She really enjoys being a coxswain. She has a lot of fun with it. Although I'm sure there's a lot of boredom with it as well.
