PRP (Personal Reliability Program is a 3-year tour that counts as sea duty. My daughter is a boat captain in Harbor Patrol. She drives a boat in the harbor guarding the harbor (I won't say WHAT she's guarding because of OPSEC). She loves driving the boats. She's hoping for Harbor Patrol in San Diego for her next station. I think she wants to stay Harbor Patrol. She really enjoys being a coxswain. She has a lot of fun with it. Although I'm sure there's a lot of boredom with it as well.

Depending upon Caitlin's choice of orders, she will take up security posts. This may include guarding bases, ships, or ports. Basically, she will be a Navy policewoman, tasked with enforcing military law. If she ends up on a land base, she would patrol (roving) the base or stand guard at the gates. Specialties include Expeditionary....much more "reactionary" training involved....and a lot of travel. She could also get into MWD (Military Working Dogs). She could end up as a compliment of…

I understanding that initial assignment to your duty station is dependent on the needs of the Navy and your preferences with the needs of the Navy being first and foremost. What would be the typical tasks for a new recruit just out of "A" school?

My daughter graduated A school around June of 2014. She chose PRP (Harbor Patrol) in Silverdale, WA. She has been there for over a year and likes it. She had PRK surgery (eye surgery) and was off the boats for about a month. She really missed it. She just got back to the boats last week and loves it. The hours suck, but now that some "issues" have been resolved, hopefully they won't suck as bad. She's hoping to get our to the fleet for her next assignment.

Just a few questions from a new dad whose FS does not leave for BC until June of this year... have got that part covered, but how long is the A-School at Lackland [She signed up for MA also] and do they have the C-School directly after A-school or do they complete A-school and then get selected [or pick] their own C-school. I just have this thing about being well informed. Have almost got the timing figured out for her PIR from GL, she goes in on 61912, just trying to also get the time and…

Have almost got the timing figured out for her PIR from GL, she goes in on 61912, just trying to also get the time and travel figured out to take off work for all of the graduations. Those things that we as a parent don't want to miss because they don't happen a 'second' time and there are rarely do overs. It just seems recently that we had gone thru the boot camp graduation and A- School graduation but these events took place in 2008. That same year he was deployed to his first assignment, overseas. He was there for 18 months. When he returned he was only stateside for 2 years. Currently he is on a second deployment overseas again and for over a year. Please don't ask where he is assigned, unable to tell. We still are able to keep in touch every 2 weeks, he calls.

When my son graduated from Great Lakes 2008, he remained there for approximately 2 weeks before going to A-school in Texas and his first assignment was overseas for 18 months. It's the parents that have the most difficulty Best of Luck for your Daughter
