Jim,

The info about the wax is perfect. Adding a little at a time and tilting away from you, 45 degrees sounds doable!

The picture of your pipe is a little blurry however. How is the "pee" on your pipe different than mine? It looks like yours might be raised higher than mine...?

Also, yes, I've googled and googled all the ways I can think. The videos I find are for sounding various calls, but none for tuning. But...the search might be over with the advice…

However I tried to copy and paste the link, but it is incomplete and the link does not work. So disregard my message.

But if you haven't done so yet, try Googling "Boatswain's Pipe" or "Tuning a Boatswain's Pipe."

I agree that there are many resources, and it seems that most sailors who use one all have different methods of tuning. You should also check on YouTube for any videos. I think the idea of the bee's wax is to add a little bit at a time. My understanding is that you "tip" the pipe away from you. So that the wax settles in the front and bottom of the bowl by lifting the mouth piece up and away from you. I would guess at about a 45 degree angle.

I have still not messed with my pipe too much and have not mastered it.

Good luck!
