We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Welcome Cecyl--- it's great to have you as part of the Arizona group on NavyDads. We're mighty proud here of the "desert rats" that are now sailors!! So join in and brag a little....or a lot about your sailor.

Hi Everyone. Our son is at GL and he just finished ATT. He is now on hold to start his ET A school. My wife has been on N4M and just found this site through a posting on it. Glad we found you.

Kevin, here are a couple of web sites you can go to that will answer alot of your questions. Once Tyler gets to his first duty station, he can go to the Education Center on base to obtain more information. Yes, the Navy will suggest and often encourages sailors to pursue or continue their college educations. Tyler will however need to initiate the steps required to get things rolling.

Kevin, welcome to our AZ group!

I received my son's form letter with the address just about a week after he left for boot. So, you should be hearing something very soon! In the meantime, go ahead and start writing those letters then you'll be ready to send them when that address info arrives.
Good luck to your recruit in bootcamp.

you should hear soon---probably within a week or so. It's tough, but you gotta deal with it.....and be patient! If there was a problem you'd know about it....no news is good news right now.

Read thought some of the recent posts in the Bootcamp group and you'll see you are not alone and that there is a reason for all this! Glad to have you in the group Gary.........

It was a great time Rex.....lots of stories about kids and the Navy and think we helped a few folks just getting into the Navy journey understand what was coming down the road. Hope to see you at a future meeting!!

Rex, thanks for your comment. Well, according to the people who came up from the southern part of the state, the weather was great. We had overcast skies, so the temp was real nice. Even had a few sprinkles, but wasn't enough to put a "damper" on things.

Hi All,
Just wanted to share a few of the pics we took at our AZ Navy moms and dads get together this last Saturday in Prescott Valley. We all had a really good time visiting and sharing stories about our sailors and recruits. There were 26 people who attended.
