Randy,
Thanks for the info. We had heard that generally speaking, there were sometimes waits for a school to "class up"...or get enough sailors to start a class. If ATT is teaching two shifts, it doesn't sound like there's a shortage of sailors?...so it's just a question of waiting for a class slot then, I'm assuming.
What's "BC liberty schedule"...is that Boot Camp?...and what's that schedule like?

Jim,

My son graduated 30 Oct and went to AECF at GL. Your son is in for a long wait. The chances of him being grad and go are slim. He will probably be on regular BC liberty schedule. Once he does to ATT, It will be a while before he starts school. At least a month. My son waited a month and a half. But ATT got enough instructors qualified that they are teaching 2 shifts. My son is in the night shift, 1600 to 0000.

Good luck to your son and hope you enjoy the PIR.

Our son Christopher will PIR on 1/29, and will be attending AECF at GL.
We're still waiting for more information on exactly what he'll get to do for that weekend...have heard many different things from other sources, some of them contradict each other, so we figure things will gel up as the date gets closer.
Some have said that if he's GradNGo to the other command, he'll process out the same day of PIR, and report in to the A school, and other than the possibility of standing watch, he'll get liberty for the weekend.
Others have said that sometimes, even if your A school is at GL, you don't Grad&Go, and you remain assigned to RTC after PIR for several days.
When we spoke with him tonight, he said he had "heard" that his division ships out on Feb 2nd, so not sure what that means either.
Time will tell...lol

My Son got to MA school in San Antonio on Tuesday he and his bunkmate basically were told to take life easy for the next couple of days as they are waiting for enough people to fill the next class. He was able to have his Cell Phone and other personal stuff right off bat. He said that starting next Friday they can start going off post etc.

James got his laptop and cell phone right after P I R. He is 1/2 way through his A school in Great Lakes for FC. We brought them to him at PIR and after a weekend with him he was able to take ithem with nhim and use them. The internet we got him was recomended by another student at the time that works on his ship. It is cricket wireless. While it did not work in Mississippi while he was here for Christmas it works well there. His PIR date was 5/15/09. While we had comfort clothes for him in the room anytime we went in public he had to have full uniform with cover. Believe me after Boot Camp he made sure everything was perfect anywhere we went. He said "There are RDC's everywhere!". We had a lot of laughs this holiday season about the fear he had after PIR.

We only meant to let him wear comfort cloths in the room. Ironing has become a habit but not something to be enjoyed.

Let me emphasize what David said about the uniform...and their cover as part of that uniform...easy to leave it on a seat or chair...

I am sure he will tell you, but anytime he is in public after PIR during liberty (unless swiming or playing some physical game) he must be in uniform.......even if he is just hanging around the hotel lobby or dining room. If he is not behind closed doors he needs to be in full uniform, believe me people do notice and may report him. That being said we also brought sweats for our son to wear around the rooms and so he wouldnt mess up his uniforms laying around the rooms.
