Hello Randy....I am not sure about Meridian as my son was in Gulf Port Miss. but i think when he came home after "A" school he got to and from the airport with friends. When he comes home for Christmas we were able to find a shuttle between Port Hueneme and LAX for $35.00 each way.To us that as pretty reasonable. You should be able to look online for shuttles or some similar modes of transportation... Hope this helps!

To everyone, and David R in particular, our sons and daughters should wear the uniform proudly. Off base present yourselves in the best possible light, your a sailor in the best Navy anywhere. Uniform of the day, blues or whites depending on the season, should be what we all see in public.

So much for the soap box. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving - whether your sailor can be with you or with you in spirit. . .

Doug's a CTN3 (soon to be a CTN2, we hope). He finsished A/C schools late 08 early 09. He is stationed at Corry near NAS P'cola. I know about changes in military, I was in 72-77. It still burns my butt to see the Army walking around in BDU's everywhere, regardless of the so-called reasoning behind it.

It is quite all right David. Yes, I talked to Nick last night and although he will start ATT the 16th, he is going to have a wait for ET A school once he finishes ATT. How long of a wait, not sure.

Yes, prior Navy, but I retired over 13 years ago. The Navy has changed a lot, but yet, still the same. Also, I was subs and my son is going surface (targets) lol. I know the feeling as far as what some on here understand about the military, not a lot. I have been able to help a few as I see you have been able to do the same.

Is your son in A school? If so, where and what school? Already finish?

Thanks for everything.

OOPPS............as an ex grunt noncom, so use to the non-prior service types here on on navyformoms upset about schooling hours/days I keep forgeting a lot of us are prior service..................LOL I was also reading in Navy Times about the backlog they are having running students through a lot of the schools on the east coast. Glad mine is done with A/C and settled in at Corry for a while.

You are totally correct David. I taught at Trident Training Facility Bangor, Wa and on the engineering side, we usally had that Fri off, however on the STG, ET side they would sometimes work on that Fri. So it totally depends on the school and the course.
Dave, Thanks for the information. Yes, I understand the teaching days. I also found a pdf brochure for the Training Support Center at Great Lakes. It explains a little bit. But, this timeline is the most accurate I have seen.

Thanks again

Each command has it's own training schedule. If they are behind or have a tight time line, they may very well bring them in for school. Remember, the military runs 24/7/365.
