My son is at Corry (CTN3) so he does have to deal with to many of the over macho crowd outside of a few marines. I went down and picked him up after C school and enjoyed it. I am sure that unless he has duty he should be allowed off base, and besides even if he wont admit to wanting T-day with the family.........I am sure mom will be happy.

Hi David, thanks for the reply, our son called today he sounds like he is having some mixed feelings I guess they bunked him with the seals he is in AIRC program. Aircrew Candidate school Dry rescue. First day jitters. My wife and i were thinking about going to P`cola for Thanksgiving has anybody stayed there or close by. Do you think this is a good idea or will it be a distraction for our son. thx Gary

Gary.....when my son was in A school at P'cola he wasn't able to come home or get leave over Thanksgiving as it was basically only a long weekend. Over the 2 weeks that A school was off for Xmas, his class was split into 2 groups. One half had the week of Xmas, the other had the week of New Years off to take liberty.

My son Adam is now in Pensacola. He had been told he may be on hold for a couple of weeks. However, on Tuesday they were told he was going to P'cola that afternoon. At least he is there and we shipped his phone and other requested items. I have the same questions as Kevin concerning Holiday time off. We'll see...

Ken, it is hard to say how long the hold time for GM-A-School will be. What was true back in March when my son had his P.I.R. is not necessarily the same today. Sailors who entered the NAVY in 2008 (Nov and Dec) had much longer hold times then my son did. Sailors who came after my son have moved through I.N.D.O.C., S.C.C. and into A.T.T. much quicker.

My son was on hold for approximately 45 business days or 9 weeks before starting A-School. A-School lasted approximately 10 weeks plus 1 week FATS training after graduation. The unknown now is the time it takes to get hard copy orders for his C-School. It has been said by those you have gone before that there wait has been one month to one and one half months after the completion of A-School. My son has received his verbal orders for V.L.S. C-School either in Va. or San Diego. He will then be assigned to Pearl Harbor Hi.

There is a GM group on NAVY DAD'S. No much activity but there has been info posted about lengths of training by Bill Sick and myself. If you have any questions I will be happy to try and answer them. I will add you as a friend and you can then e-mails me. Gary T.

Ken- I am sorry to say the holds in GL have been frustrating. My son is AECF - with schooling for fire control tech. He graduated boot the end of May and is on hold for A school. He has gone through SCC and ATT schooling but had holds for both of those too. He just finished up ATT and was told that his hold for A school is 3-5 months. At this rate, he will finish A school after being in GL for about a year! I am not sure if all students go through both the SCC and ATT classes. Your son should know a little more about SCC and ATT shortly. Holds for those aren't very long. Maybe 2 weeks each. Hopefully after finishing his SCC and ATT, his hold won't be as long as my son's. Good luck!

My son graduated on 9/11 and is "on hold" at GL waiting to start GM A School there. Does anyone have an idea of how long the hold period might be?
