My Grandson finished his PIR 13 Sept 2013. He flew out to Texas to MA school.

"A" school question?  My son says he will graduate on May 21 if he gets "Grad and Go" as his orders or he may get "Ships Company" and have to stay an additional 3 weeks in Pensacola. I understand the grad and go but can someone explain what "ships company" means?

My son has his iphone and laptop at A School in GL. Wifi is not free. It's 50.00 a month. Some older residence buildings don't have WIFI. My son decided to use his iphone as a hot spot for 20 bucks a month rather than have any more money deducted from his check to purchase wifi. He rarely uses the laptop as he anticipated as he can communicate , facebook and face time with the phone. He does rent redbox movies somewhere and for that his laptop is handy.

My son Devin is in his 3rd week at DINFOS - Fort Meade, MD.

Anyone else have a son or daugher in A school for MC?

Unless things have changed he can get his cell and laptop at the airport and take them on as carry on baggage. If he waits until he arrives at A school it may be a few weeks before he receives them by mail. If I remeber correctly large items are held at the mailroom until he picks them up and depending on his schedule and classes it may be a while. If he gets them at the airport less time out of touch.

our son said we are to mail his phone and laptop to him. Is he just being paranoid? We were planning to give him his phone at the airport before he leaves for A-School @ P-Cola. His recruiter had told me that he could have phone.

When my son went to P'Cola we gave him his laptop and cell at the airport and he had them since day 1 in A school. Originally signed up with Sprint but he dropped it once he moved into a room with access to a strong wireless connection.

David Gjertson:  Depending on where A School might be, they may not have Internet access, unless you've already got his laptop on a card with access (like cell phones).  Our daughter still enjoyed her laptop to view DVD movies, etc., while she was in school in Great Lakes without Internet. But, she did get to text and call home on her cell when she was outside and standing still.  At Great Lakes, they cannot sit while using the cells outside and must have their right hands free to salute at all times.  She continued to use her laptop even on deployment on her destroyer for movies, but used her Navy account on the furnished computers for emailing.

My sailor has been asking about a laptop computer. Anyone know the protocol for electronics in A School living quarters? He's an artist and I already sent along his sketching materials .. pencils, hand sharpener and sketch book. I figured that wouldn't be a problem.
