Not sure if I am right as I Google too.

I googled the question and got that it had to do with the type of duty station you were assigned, but it didn't go into any kind of detail of what the training was.. Thanks

Best guess after a little research strand training appears it may be a type of orientation training to prepare an individual for the particulars of a duty station. For example my son is working the flight line to direct and prepare aircraft during landings and take offs. He also needs to know who fights fires, what happens when a plane is damaged... and more.
On a carrier he would not work the flight line. He would still need ship specific training such as emergency procedures, fire fighting, damage control.....and more.

What in the world is ship company (strand training) (2 wks) or airwing strand training(3wks) for an AO? I got this off my sons job reservation. He does this training after A school, depending on the type of duty assigned.

Thanks I was unaware of the Utah. Yes the Bowfin is a WWII sub. She is nicknamed the Peral Harbor Avenger and has quite a combat history.

The Arizona, The Mighty Mo...Battleship Missouri, and the the Bowfin. are all in the same area! I am not forgetting the roasted pig.
We did get to talk to Andrew on Thursday afternoon. He was headed to a Thanksgiving gathering at the home of a couple he met through the chapel. We are grateful that he was out of the barracks and with friends.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Hey Jim, picked up my sailor at JAX on Monday, and he's home with me now.

Great news on the leave for Brad and you to Jim. Andrew will be in Hawaii this year. We hope to visit him in the spring.

My son Garrett is back in Japan from his second tour, this time with the USS Cowpens. He is finishing packing as he has leave to come home Tuesday! Yahoo! We look forward to welcoming him home at Orlando Int'l Airport that night. We have him until Dec 11, so we will just have to have Christmas early! What a wonderful Thanksgiving we will have and we give thanks for all the blessings that have been provided to bring him home. All the best to your families and with the great thanksgiving thoughts for you and your sailors!

That's great Jim! Congrats to your son! When you go to the "wings" ceremony it will be so great you won't be able to stand it, and the pride will never leave you! HooYah!
