Navy Dads

Anyone else been dreaming about where their kid's will end up being stationed?

Living in the Great Lakes region (not Great Lakes, IL) all of the typical home sub ports for me are a LONG way away. The only one that's within a reasonable driving distance is Groton and even that is a 12 hour drive or so.

So, there's no hope for me of my son being close by, but all the home sub ports seem to be in pretty damn nice vacation places.

I've been looking up information on motorcycle rentals in Hawaii already :)

you can dream but repeat the Navy mantra: Needs of the Navy

My daughter is hoping she is out of the west coast. She is going into Nukes. Being from the east coast, all visits would be vacation destinations. And like you Jeff I will be looking to ride when I get there. Just finished a 3780 mile trip down and up the east cost. What do you ride?

Hawaii would be a dream but my son didn't really express any interest there but who knows maybe in the future. He had San Diego and Japan on top of his list of desired places when he was in A-School and he got San Diego...

I have a 04 HD FatBoy. Bought it new. I would like to get a touring bike in about 2 yrs. I think it's great that the 2 of ya's did that.

Good luck with that. My son ended up going to Sesabo Japan.

the navy is reorganizing all of their websites and finding current info for that kind of stuff is very difficult right now...there are some links to current maps ond info for all US naval installations, but international info is sketchy..that may be due to the re-org or that may be a function of OPSEC now a days as well.

may want to check this site: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/bases/navbases.html as it lists the US bases and most have links.....

and I did find this kinda hidden link to info for all the Navy installations https://www.cnic.navy.mil/Fallon/RegionsAndInstallations/index.htm?...

I work at the nuke training unit in new york saratoga is nice the horse track is open and some real nice riding in the adarondack mts winters are sometimes a little bad but if you like to ski ( I dont ) you will like it
