Navy Dads

We received his 30 second phone call around midnight.  We will be anxiously awaiting our letter from him with his contact info so we can begin writing to him.  I have heard that he is not allowed to receive photographs, but they can be printed on regular copy paper and sent.  Is this correct?  We don't want to send him anything that would get him in any trouble, just pictures of our family from time to time, items his little brothers have drawn for him, etc.  His 6 year old brother already misses him terribly, and is trying so hard to be like him, it is cool.  I came in the night we dropped him off with the recruiter, and Nick (6 yr old) was wearing his little Army BDUs, said he was going to be just like Joe...cool I said, so now, I get to go down to the surplus store and buy a tiny Navy work uniform for him, lol.  Now that we are past the first hard part, watching him leave, we are waiting to see him in his finest hour at PIR.  I am so proud of my boy, words just cannot express it.  I am glad to be part of this site, glad to have found it searching for information.

James,

First off, love the pride you feel. You raised and amazing young man and looks like you got another little Sailor in the making a few years down the road. To answer you picture question, I sent my son pictures on printer paper, some of past memories and some of what we were up to to keep him up to date. His little sister drew him many pictures we also sent him. He kept every single one of them and brought them home for keep sake when he came back during Christmas break. I also sent him many many jokes at the end of my letters to give him a laugh in times he was having a hard time getting through boot camp.  PIR was amazing, I still watch my son's PIR from time to time and still get that proud feeling when those roll up doors come up and the crowd goes nuts for them.

Typically 7-10 days after arrival you'll get a form letter with all pertinent PIR info.....if you intend to drive onto base to park, there will be a password on that letter you'll need to download the parking pass. There are tons of other PIR hints in our PIR group...please stop by and explore: http://www.navydads.com/group/pirtipshintsandhelps
