Join the crowd of proud and concerned parents, Paul. We took my son to one of his favorite places for dinner the last night, too. I'm anxiously waiting to receive the letter containing his address.
Thanks to your sons for their service.
Ward - I was just reading your blog from last week. You are a week ahead of us, so keep the info flowing. Thanks! :)
Paul - Our son was also sworn in yesterday shortly before noon at Baltimore MEPS, arrived at RTC last night around 2200 CST. Let's stay in touch.
First update: We received the sailor in a box today, at the six day mark. I'm hopeful the form letter with his address isn't far behind.
Ward - I recently posted this on NavyForMoms because one of the ladies was freaking out because her son was going to Afganistan. This might help your wife:

Just like the Iraq and Afganistan war we are in now. I know alot of you moms are truly scared for your sailors. But lets talk about the true facts, instead of the unknowns.
As some of you know, I'm the group admin for the Cryptology area here at N4M's. We had a mom who's son was about to deploy to Afghanistan and she was worried. I explained my way of thinking and now she is totally fearless. This is what I wrote:
xxxxxx - In todays age, I wouldn't be scared at all. Heck our police get shot at more than our military. I'd much rather be in Afganistan as a CT, than walking through the ghetto in my own country (the U.S.)
What people fail to realize is that when they show the # of military that have died in the middle east, it includes people that died in car accidents and other weird stuff (ie suicides). You have more chances of getting wack here in the U.S. just by driving a car down the street. Everyone still has that WW2 stuff in their heads where we lost thousands per day. But lets look at the numbers in our generation. It's 1850 people since 2001. That to me is incredible. Heck, we're at war! 1850 people in 10 year of war is not that much. It's just that the news plays it up.
I truly hate talking about deaths, especially to a bunch of moms. But people just need to know the facts. 10 years of war (1850 people) doesn't even add up to the single day of the World Trade Center killings (2996 people). We can walk around scared or we can live our lifes. To me, I would be honored for my son spearheading our military in the middle east. When you look at the numbers, it shows that he's not in harms way.
Just my view.....of course, I'm not a mom either....
ok Bill i will pass on any info on to you

Paul - we received our "Sailor in a Box" in yesterdays mail. Still no form letter with a division and ship or address; however, hoping that will come over the weekend or early next week so we can send him the half dozen letters I've written in the past four days. :)
Bill my sons Sailor box came in to. maybe our son will be in the same divison.
Could very well be; however, even if in different divisions they will have PIR on same day. I booked a room already for the weekend of the 13th and 20th of January "just in case". Expect our PIR will be the 13th, but when I asked the PR department said wasn't certain because of the half days at Chrismas and Thanksgiving. If you are going, pick a hotel now and book space, you can always cancel it if the date changes.

Based on past reports from other Dads, I expect the form letter with Division assignment and address to arrive this Tuesday. :)

We still haven't received the form letter from my son. Today marks 11 days. I'm hopeful it will be in the mail tomorrow (Monday).
Whoa that's a bit overdue. You should definitely get it by this week...
