We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Have him call your phone and leave you a voicemail before he leaves. Then you can hear his voice whenever you want. I wish I had done that.

What a great day after Thanksgiving! I received Phillip's first "letter" which provides his mailing address and a one-lined note from him. The rest of it is a form letter from the NAVY that tells families what I already learned from you parents who have posted previously. I also know his Division and his ship. Now I need a PIR date. But at least I can rest better, knowing he loves it so far. From the day he arrived in GL (19Nov) until his letter arrived, it is 9 days. His box arrived 5 days after he left. Hope this helps those parents whose kids are following Phillip's division.

she said she likes going to the dentist because they have a tv there
and it is on the news, so she can see what is going on in the world.

Thats good to hear Corky...if your not going to be home maybe she can call a friend or another family member. Ouch dry socket- what do they even do for that?

jamie,
i am so glad you finally got your call.
katie called again saturday and sounded so much better than the last call.
even though she had her wisdom teeth pulled and got dry socket, and had a bad cold.
she is adjusting well to the lack of freedom.
the hardest part for her is no cell phone, texting, internet.
we are not very religious, but she has been going to church on sundays.
she said she couldn't call home on thanksgiving .
only on saturday, but we will be in mexico, out of cell range.
we are writing alot , she also said it means very much.

Thank you very much for your responses to my question about phone calls. The FedEx driver just left Phillip's box not 5 minutes ago. I took it into his room...the first time I entered his room since he left. His mom will be saddened and happy when I tell her after she gets home from work. We are getting tougher. Hope we can keep a stiff upper lip on Thanksgiving, especially when we say grace. But this will be the most meaningful Thanksgiving of my life. I dare say that's probably true for most of us new NAVY parents on this website. You all help those after you a great deal by letting us know what to expect. I'm thankful for you too.

Hi all. My son left for Boot Camp last night. I want him to succeed so much! I've underestimated him in the past and am determined not to do so now. So he'll do a great job! Am looking forward to the 30 sec call!
