No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Hey I too got my first phone call and my daughter is in the same div and ship with eickman and she's saying the the same thing and that she's got a bunch of "weenies". The ones that are struggling are needing listen and follow instructions. She's still excited hoping they can get it together. So glad to had the chance to talk to her and I was able to make her day knowing I was going to be there to see her for Christmas!

Got the form letter yesterday. My daughter's PIR date is January 13. Time to start planning.

Ship 03, USS Hopper. Great ship! My son PIRed 9/2 out of Ship 03. We have the best training in the world. You will be so proud of your children when you see them again.

Gary brings up a good point- for the first 3 weeks or so the recruits are being "broken down" as Gary put it- they have come from all over the US and have vastly different backgrounds and goals---the Navy needs to "reset" all those recruits to a common point and then start to rebuild the recruits into a cohesive team-based group of sailors....all in 8 short weeks! When you see your sailor at PIR you will be amazed and what they have become!

Thank you Gary for sharing. I had no idea of that call we may receive. Our daughters PIR will eit her be Jan 13th or 20th but still waiting on the letter! She shipped out Nov 22nd...but with Thanksgiving and Christmas in her time frame...it may be the latter of the two. Thank you so much for sharing! If she calls and is down...it will make us feel better knowing it's routine. When she called that first night she didn't sound like the girl that left that morning....she was ready to kick some butt our girl said!! Lol...she of course was scared and excited!! Thank you again!!
