Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Boot socks are in high demand.  I don't know if I sent the right ones, but they like the black ones with white or gray sole.

I really like the saran wrap because it not only provides a seal, it provides cushioning for the ride.  I'm thinkin' about the COD landing...  lol  Surely the USPS is gentle with my sailors boxes  :-/

They really like getting snack foods.  My son LOVES thumb print cookies.  Make sure you wrap them in saran wrap and put them in a cheap tupperware container.  I even wrapped the container in saran wrap.  They like T-shirts, tank tops to workout in, and air fresheners for their racks.   My son's favorite thing to get was pictures from home.  I bought wallet sized magnet frames so he could put on his rack. I sent a couple of new DVD's as well.  I sent him baby wipes, suduko book and travel size kleenex.  I also sent carmex and hand sanitizer.  Hope that helps...

here is a good reminder from Fishdad from last year:

And one more thing, in the box on the Customs Form that you fill out when the package is undeliverable (this does happen for various reasons), we usually put CHAPLAIN and the address that the box is being mailed to. The Chaplains will then get the contents to someone in need. If you decide to have the box mailed back to you, you may be liable for the postage to do so. We mailed a box out to a soldier for Valentines day and received it back 9 months later. It was quite the mess. Thankfully, this was the only time it has happened.

I wanted to let everyone know that my first care package made it to the Eisenhower in one day less than two weeks.

I wish I had a way to get all those addresses of the ones that don't ever get any mail...I would definitely change that...lol...I have over 200 members in my letters from home project!! LOL....I mostly send care packages to ones on the any soldier.com website, and some to hospitals around the country....:) most of them write back and let me know what they need, and I focus on that once I know.. :)
