My sailor just arrived at DLI. His classes begin in May. I'm so proud.

Jim,

Thanks, thats great, he should be back here mid May and we were thinking we could have some sailors over for Christmas if they couldn't get home. Our neighborhood hosts about 30 rescue swimmers for Thanksgiving every year. Beats getting stuck in the barracks.

Two quick questions (to which there may not be an answer)

1. Ball park on how long it might take a CTN to class up.

2. Are they allowed to take leave between A school and their first Duty Station?

FYI...selfishly trying to plan for the Holidays later this year. Since we live in Pensacola (see pic of our beach) there wouldn't be any flight costs.

Thanks...

My son left for BC Thursday and we got our call per instructions. Hopefully, since I once had a clearance and all my family lived in the same Penna county since the English kicked us out of Scotland, his credentials might be quicker...or not.

Thanks for the responses Jim and Dave.  My son has been cleared, so maybe he will have his assignment before long.  He serves on the Honor and Color Guards while waiting, so he stays busy.

Guys...my son waited around a long time (maybe 6 months) at Ft. Meade waiting for his credentials and for his job to start.  They will get started eventally.  :)

Richard B; my son just arrived at Meade, from what little he has told me, he won't actually start "work" until he is cleared. I am guessing it means further background checks and such.

My son is a CTN stationed at Ft. Meade.  He has been on base for several months, and is still waiting for his first job assignment.  Any info from anyone as to how long the wait for a spot typically is?  He's ready to get to work!

@MarkM, Thanks for the heads up...my wife is on Navyfor Moms pretty regular. I was a CTT2 in the late 60's and am still stunned by the changes at BC. We still our own laundry with scrub brushes and I would have killed for a pair of running shoes. It looks like Club Med now by comparison...Thank God for YouTube. Our son was the CO of his NJROTC unit so we lost him a week or two every summer, but this will be the longest stretch and I'll be glad when he gets back here to Corry.

@PaulS, I missed the C School part. CTIs don't go to C School after DLI. They go through F School, which is the cryptology part of their training. My son said it is actually harder than DLI, although it is only 3 months long. Once they complete that training, they go into the job. Like I said, my son has been in just over two years and finally started the job 3 weeks ago!
