They all find out soon enough that there is plenty of sitting around and waiting in the military. My son spent months at his first duty station before he actually started his job.
Rich,
Thanks for the info. I told him not to worry about it and that it will happen when they get to it. And yes, moving plans are definately on hold.
James,
Our Son graduated from Corry as a CTR on 12/9/11, and didn't get his orders until the week of graduation (along with several other Navy CTRs in his class)...some CTRs in the class right before his had the same issue, which makes it pretty hard to make moving plans.
Guess I should add: Hes at Corry Station and a CTR. Dont know if that makes any differance.
Good Morning All,
Question. My sons class is scheduled to graduate on the 27th. According to him, everyone in his class has orders for their first assignment but him. Is this typical and how soon shoould he be talking to someone? I was Army and we got our orders, sometimes, months out.
Haven't posted here in a while. Our son came home on Sunday for 2 weeks thru the holidays. So good to have him home. The just finished A school and made CTT3. Very proud of him. Got his patches put on right before he came home. Word is there are currently no CTT billets anywhere in the fleet right now (saturated). So maybe no orders for the foreseeable future. Could be a long hold in P-Cola. 8^( Just glad to have him home.
My Son has (CTRS/SW) went to Corry for A and C school then had the chance to put his skills to work and get his qualifications and ESWS during deployment earlier this year. Now that he is stateside for a bit, it is nice he and his wife are only a 5.5 hr drive now instead or a plane flight.
Bill: Your daughter knows her orders after boot already? What is her rate? CTI?
My son, a CTN, is at the puzzle palace in MD (as David R called it). Lots of CTN's there. His roommate is a CTI and apparently there are plenty of them there too. Bill - your daughter will likely end up there as well.
Thanks all for your comments. My daughter is 26 and signed up in April of 2011 and just left for RTC 12/7/11. She goes to DLI Monterey, CA. after boot camp. Although a college grad this is what she wanted to do which was a fit for her major. She is thinking of OTS after school but that is still a long way off.
Son is a CTN2 at Corry, he has been there since finishing bootcamp in 09/08, after he finished both A and C schools (in 09, before they merged) he was given 10 days leave to basically move down the street. He will be leaving there after the 1st of the year to head to the puzzle palace in MD. Cant wait..............its only a 6-8 hour drive compared to the 16-20 hour drive to Corry.
