Yep, they have to get X number of sailors in the right rates so they can "class up." Our sailor waited about 8 weeks after bootcamp. He will find it is more relaxed than boot camp but still regimented. They still have PT, muster, get inspected (uniform and room) regularly and have restrictions. They earn privileges in levels over time and it gets more relaxed.
Thanks Sandy! He called and said that they are doing some inprocessing stuff, but thats about it. No word on a class start date. WOW! Hate to think that he would be sittng for a couple months.
He should get a class date soon, it is possible he could be in the holding company for a few months before the school starts. It was amazing they had to get her to basic right away to make her A scholl then she sat there for a couple of months waiting for school to start.
My son just arrived at Pensacola for his A school. Does anyone know if there is an inprocessing period before the actual training begins or do they jump in head first? Would thing there would be some admin things to take care of before classes start.
Oscar -Does your daughter know about the required security access she needs to get? Has she talked to your neighbors letting them know that the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) or the Defense Security Service (DSS) will be flashing badges?
I hope your daughter has been on the forums too. She can learn so much before she get to boot camp, and she will not be blind sided.
I know this crypto stuff really well, I'm a retired CTM, my son is a CTN, and my nephew is a CTT. I still work with the Navy in the CT field....
Keep the faith gentlemen. They will be just fine at RTC. Write plenty but don't expect to hear much back. You will love their PIR (graduation) and it will be a nice time of year...much cooler than July. Being a CTR is a great rating...my daughter-in-law is one. They will all probably spend quite a bit of time "in hold" waiting for an A-school once they get to P-Cola. Durign that time they will be given some sort of duty to keep them busy. Overall it will be a big change and a welcome relief from RTC. :)
Phil,
Our prayers are with your son and all young people that are in camp, My daughter is counting down the days.
Todd,
Thank you very much for the good info. I will make sure to stay in good contact with her as you suggest by letter.
God Bless everyone.
HooYah!!
Oscar- Our son arrived at RTC last week and is "scheduled" to PIR 23 SEP... He too will be headed to P'cola in the fall. This site has been GREAT so far, so stay tuned...
Make sure you get over to the Boot Camp and PIR groups too. I also can recommend the Marriot Extended stay in Waukeegan when you go to attend PIR.
