Daryl,

Me too - I'm ex RAF and I was really surprised how very similar boot camp was (except for the boaty bits :-) ). To be clear, Andrew is a Navy MA and there are no Marines on his squadron in Guam but they wear camo-greens out there.

Shane - just sent a PM with the details. Thanks !

David, it is all good clean fun with your son and the Marines. I'm retired Navy and have the utmost respect for those who wear a uniform. Please tell your son thanks for his willingness to serve! DH

David:
Of course I would do that, what is his last name? So have you found out what the steps are for him next? I know Sean said he was coming home on leave after pinning then going to Mississpi for 3 or 4 weeks then back to California for training with the Marines before they head overseas. So it sound like it will be at least a couple of months before he heads out.

Daryl,

My son's unifom will also be "Woodland Green" in Guam

Shane,

W're a little envious of you (we're planning a family vacation for his embarkation leave so we decided against going to the pinning to save money). I wonder if you could do us a huge favor ? - if you could take a picture of Andrew getting pinned, we would be foreever in your debt

David & Kathi (we're just over the river from you guys in OR BTW)

David:

I will ask Sean next time I talk to him if he know your son, I am sure he does. (like you said). We are headed down to Texas next Wed's I am looking forward to it. I did not get to go to the PIR so this should be fun. Hope the weather is better then it has been here.

Well since the Marines are dressed in cammies perhaps the tree snakes will have a difficult time identifing them? All though, the Marines are more likely to eat em and then the birds may make a come back. :)

Hi Daryl: I saw the brown tree snakes have taken over and pretty much eaten all the birds. Makes you wonder what'll happen to our guys when 8000 Marines arrive :-)

Hi David,

I heard rumblings about the build up in the Navy Times. Be careful of the snakes. Our plane needed to be inspected before we had taken off in fear of transporting creatures that did not have a seat assignment. Talk to you soon.

Hi Daryl,

I've already "friended" Guam MWR on Facebook; they are pretty active and they have a brand new single sailor refuge there - presumably courtesy of the build up

Hey Shane, yea have your son get in contact with the MWR (moral welfare and recreation) department and they will loads of different activities to be apart of. I'm not sure about golf but I know scuba diving is an option and some smaller sail boats probably would not be out of the question. Take care and talk to you soon. DH

Tess, my family and I are looking forward to seeing him as well. Hopefully sooner than later. Take care and let us know when you are heading out and if we are going around that same time then we can all meet. Take care and talk to you soon. DH
