Scott, thanks for that info...like Tess, I too was wondering what OC stood for. My son's OC spray got rescheduled to Monday due to the weather. He's anxious for it to be over so he can get on with the other stuff.

Scott & Chris,
Thanks for your comments and support. Much appreciated. Not a day at the beach, but he'll get through it. Take care.

Pepper spray, also known as OC spray (from "Oleoresin Capsicum"), OC gas, and capsicum spray, is a lachrymatory agent (a chemical compound that irritates the eyes to cause tears, pain, and even temporary blindness) that is used in riot control, crowd control, and personal self-defense, including defense against dogs and bears.
The active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilis.

In short Tess is it just like Chili Pepper.......
After 20 years in Law Enforcement and 4 as a MAA it really is not as bad as everyone says, about 15 minutes and it is all over with. It IS NOT something you would want to do over and over but it is very important they go through it, because SOONER or LATER you or your partner will have to use it and guess who BESIDES the bad guy gets it!

I've been reading a lot about this OC spray... what exactly is it and what does it do? Do I really want to know? =0

Hi, Nadine...yes, this Friday is the OC spray and our son is a little nervous but he says he's ready. Has to be done regardless but if you do well on this as well as the other tests this week, their choice of duty station is better. We're planning on going to the pinning (graduation) too and so far I've found flights out of Seattle for $184/RT. Not bad! For lodging, we've heard the family can stay on base for $18/night...it's not 4 stars but you get to see and be with your MA sailor more.

I think my son is still getting over the shock of how different A school is from boot camp. He has one roommate and more space to store stuff than he imagined. Just sent his civilian clothes for phase 2. I hear the dreaded OC spray is Friday. better to get it over with I guess. He packed the baby shampoo. Looking into cheap flights for graduation. Anyone have any ideas? We used Southwest for BC and A school and they were great. It may be me but it looks as if the prices for flights on all the airlines have gone up.
