Got a call from Derek earlier this week.  Completed his first week of FMTB and said they are kicking his a**.  He said he had about 3 hours sleep in the last 48 hours.  He said he has spend more time at attention and parade rest this past week then the entire time at boot. They have to stand at parade rest while being addressed by the DI.  I told him that sometimes the DI's and the sailors become good friends after FMTB.  His reply?  "Yeah, not these guys."  Can't wait to hear from him this weekend after week 2.

Take the time tonight  to say a prayer for the families of our lost

Seals, and I would hazard a guess at least one Corpsman  in the

 Helo crash in Afganistan.

I would hope their loss is covered before any other so called News

RIP...we see and feel your loss.........

After looking back at comment threads (since I hadn't been on in a while) I noticed there were no comments about the Corpsman that was lost on July 12th in Afg. Aaron Ullom was KIA in a firefight. He was reportedly providing aid to a shot Marine and was protecting him when he had to engage. Sadly, both were lost in that battle. He was from Midland, Michigan and died for us at age 20. (he had only been 20 for approx. 2 weeks!) He was in my son's Platoon at FMTB at Lejuene that graduated 09-Jul-10.

A Facebook page was set up called "R.I.P Doc Ullom". I received a return note from his mother just the other day. She is missing him, but VERY appreciative for kind words and thoughts from others that share the same concerns we all have. They mean ALOT! The "wall" is open for comments. It was difficult for me to read since I had met that young man several times on my trips to NC. He was pretty tight with my boy.

I'm just putting this out there so we never forget! On behalf of a grateful nation, THANK YOU! God Speed Doc Ullom!

David

I'm sure youll enjoy the stories that will come from his time in FMTB.

Having both Marine and Navy instructors adds a twist that is special

each day.

When hes done it will make a difference andi it starts the climb to being

a "Doc' with the Marines. Corpsman become as green as any Marine

in a short time and become one with the unit .

positive letters and calls always needed from home.

My son started FMTB last Monday.  Only comment I have seen was on his Facebook page.  All it said was "What have I got myself into?..."  Had to laugh.  Haven't heard anything since, but it's only day 3 and I'm sure he's busy.  He got some comments below his and all of them were supportive.  Can't wait to hear from him.

Thank you Mr. Kendall,

His grad was today. He made the Dean's list. He had told us he would not be home until Thursday and then about 6 he walks into his mothers shop. He's looking good.

Jonny

Passed word to my son, his return was "Marine logistics group. Used to be called FSSG field service support group"

He doesnt have any contacts there I'm afraid, sounds like safe duty

if thats possible. Things move and change as they hook up with

units.

Weather is dam hot, heat realated injuries high for Marine units in

training keeps the Corpsman busy if he gets to the field.

Not much inside stuff I'm afraid....I'm sure he will do fine they

are a special group of young men and women
