Navy Corpsman Description and Links

Hospital Corpsman (HM) is a rating in the United States Navy that is most frequently known to the general public in their seconded role cross-services— as the equivalent of an army medic in the US Marine Corps out among the combat units in the field. Hospital Corpsman are members of the Navy's Hospital Corps, and are frequently the only medical care-givers available in many fleet or marine units on extended deployment. Hospital Corpsman serve as enlisted medical specialists for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. The Hospital Corpsman serves in a wide variety of capacities and locations, including shore establishments such as naval hospitals and clinics, aboard ships as the primary medical caregivers for Sailors while underway, or with Marine Corps units.

time. His first calls were ones we still talk about today.
Its been three yrs + and he continues to learn and do things we as parents watch with pride.
He wanted time with the Marines out of Coprs school
but went to the hospital instead, not happy on this
adventure but contacts and knowledge added made
him a better Corpsman.
He's been to the sand box etc and serves with the
Marines now...still learning and moving up .
Remind your son its just the first step on his journey

Comment by J & G's Mom(AK Mom) on September 8, 2010 at 4:27pm: I agree the highly tech and medical rates do open many doors within the DOD, as well as, in the real (civilian) world. My son has already eluded a similar comment in his own way. Also as a corpsman he is highly challenged both mentally and physically. Skills that are quite necessary in today’s job market/military.

What is really cool he left a message on phone the other day and informed me “The man who is due to my diligence of keeping him on a straight and narrow despite all the opposition he had to offer”. “What a complement to hear”. With his younger brother in tow I know my efforts are worthy and the sun will shine after he too sees the light. As a single parent, I realize the path of life we are given is for a reason; what that reason is for we often do not understand when we’re are younger. However, I now know my time and experience in the USN was very beneficial.

A school graduation is smaller but being a Corpsman is
large step into the future that will open so many doors
in the Navy he doesnt even see yet.
