blondie - so very true!!! It was great to spend a little time with him and it was good to see him and his brother, they are 21 and 22, become close again. Also, he did not realize that Dad was in the Army during Vietnam, so that gave him another connection. Just going to take me a little while to deal with the loss.

I'm sorry for your loss but understand.  It's like I was always told, something good always comes from something bad.

I was thrilled to see him, but wish he was not coming in for my dad's funeral. But, it was good for the whole family to see him, too.

HooYah J&G's Mom !!  You'll have a serious case of the "empty nest" syndrome!!! The Doobie Brothers video will be especially poignant....

WOW, I this week I signed the papers for Son #2. He will be enlisting come summer for the DEPs and off to BC come this next winter or early spring, after he finishes school. Yes, he is excited and ready to fly the nest. I will be issued my Liberty Card... I will always be on call no matter they may be.  I am jazzed and very proud of them for it has not been a easy feat raising them - Raising them has not been a job for it has been an adventure. Finally now both will realize and understand thier up bringing was very much like the Navy Way.

I posted this on another group....

SERE is over, thank goodness! He did fine. At their debriefing he found out he did better than he thought he did. I had to laugh, though...he made it through training without any injuries and then was rushing to get to debriefing on time and went over on his ankle. He said there were officers on his team, so he didn't get the worst of the treatment. Still, he said it was the worst thing he ever imagined and has been through, but that he's glad he had the opportunity.

I was pleased with something he said. I knew he had a friend who will be attending SERE in a month. I asked if he was going to talk to him about it. His response was that if you know all what to expect going into it then you really don't get the most out of it. He felt that  learning how to react and act was a big part of it. Have to say I was proud of his observation.
