yes, yes!  we do all that too!  I've sent hundreds to the ME and at least a hundred to Japan but trying to get others to help and organize this thing.

Fishdad, I hope I can get that many to help!  we don't have that many poeple in the 3 surrounding villages (we're not even labeled town's, lol). I get my tape donated, one less expense to a very expensive addiction. as my BIL would say, he's the one who donates it to me. Post master keeps me in boxes (i go to post office everyday for work). well thanks for the advise I'll ask the radio station about FB or Yahoo account.

We tape the lids shut before we put them in the baggies. Double insurance for possible leaks.

Any box being sent to an APO or FPO will go at a discounted rate, whether they are the military boxes or not. Trust me.....personally sent hundreds upon hundreds of boxes over the last 12 years. And now....you can do the customs forms online rather than write every one out by hand!!

Anything you send that's liquid....softsoap, shampoo, etc...put into ziploc bags. Also...I don't send any food in the same box with personal items. The scents end up in/on the food and are sooooo gross. lol.

Fishdad - you can still get the tape? Lucky you. We can't get it free here anymore. I use to order it online and not any more. But, I can get everything else delivered to my home.

Blondie and Fishdad - BZ to both of you for really pitching in and helping!!

Blondie,

It's the 12x12x6 boxes that I'm talking about. And they will send you a package of 20 of them. It's helped us to have a FB page as well as an email. It has made it easier for the public to get in touch with us. You can do a post on the FB page and reach everyone as opposed to trying to make a phone call to a lot of people. Also, it's easier for the paper and / or radio to share one of those.  We are sending the cold weather stuff. We had a group at our church make a bunch of fleece scarves to send. It's a good way to allow people to use their particular talents to contribute and feel helpful. We have about 2,500 people that are somehow involved in our particular ministry and we've found that these things are the most helpful for us.

thanks Fishdad and Suzi, we've sent boxes for the past 3-4 years.  Just never this many and never anyone helping just us.

what sizes are the boxes? and 20 of what? I use the 12x12x6 and it cost $12.95 but with packing shoe boxes, I can only get 2 in our flat rate boxe.  your lists looks about like mine although we aren't allowed to send batteries.  and I haven't gotten into the hat, gloves.....Although I'm in hio and it is snowing and blowing again today!  LOL  I am working with molly'sadoptasailor in gettting some blankets moved but those are going to the Japanees.

I'll check out both sites and let you know if I need anything.  Sould we name this thing, start a e-mail account or FB account?

Hi Blondie!

We're doing this as well. Our church has a Ministry. It's called the Armor of God Military Ministry. We send out boxes regularly. We collect and then set up a packing date. There is NEVER  a shortage of people who want to help. We separate the items ahead of time by category, just makes it easier. If you contact the US Post Office they will deliver APO/FPO boxes directly to you. We order 5 boxes at a time, each box holds....can't remember how many, I think 20, but don't quote me. Then we get together and pack them. Pack them tight. The price is the same regardless of what they weigh! You will have to have customs forms filled out BEFORE you take the boxes to the Post Office. You have to have the name of the Sailor that you are mailing them to. You can't just write "7th Fleet Sailor" on it. It has to have a destination. Someone at the Post Office will be glad to show you how to fill out the form. Don't be sloppy with it as it will delay the packages arrival...and that's sketchy enough right now. Our post office also supplies priority tape for the boxes, but not all of them do. It's just one less expense if they do. The boxes will run you about $12 or $13 to send. No aerosols, large bottles of liquid items or glass containers allowed. Here's our list of items that we're collecting this time around:

Trial size Shampoo & Conditioners

Deodorant

Shaving Cream

Razors

Toothbrushes

Toothpaste

Eye Drops

Foot Powder

Bar Soap

Small sized lotions

Feminine Hygiene Products

Non-perishable Food Items

Canned meats (tuna, chicken, vienna sausages)

Canned Pasta ( Ravioli, Spaghtettios, etc)

Instant Oatmeal packets

Individual Drink Mixes (Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, Via...the type you can add to a water bottle)

Small packages of Chips, Crackers and Cookies

Small packages of Candy ( Gummy worms, Mike n Ikes, Jelly Beans, etc..)

Misc. Items

Batteries ( AA, AAA & C)

Small flashlights

Hats, Gloves, Socks, Scarves

If you have anymore questions feel free to email me. You can reach me at armorofgodmilitaryministry@gmail.com

God will bless what you're doing. I can tell by reading your posts that you have a heart the size of Texas. Enjoy blessing these guys and gals. We do.

I have people donating items and helping me pack and sending out boxes. now the radio station wants to do PBA and an article in the news paper?  does anyone know how to organize this?  should I name it?  I have 2 different drop off locations in 2 different towns.  also if you don't mind, pray that this is what God wants me to do and guides me.
