My son is going to Groton, CT. to report what information can I give him to help?

Thanks, Bill, for the words of wisdom...when I was in the Navy we had a saying: "Nothing in the Navy is ever certain until it has already happened, and even then it is sometimes subject to change."

My wife and I plan to proceed as if Aaron will have liberty after PIR and then if he is really a Grad & Go, well South Carolina is lovely in April! : )

Jim G. My step son was a grad & go, then the day before PIR (thursday afternoon)he called and let us know that his status was changed and he had liberty Fri & Sat. That was the PIR on Jan.30. So there is still a chance that the grad & go might change. My step son shipped out to GC early the Sunday morning after PIR. ..You're on Navy time now. Grad & go today might be 2 days liberty tomorrow....

We found out yesterday that our son, Aaron, will be a "grad and go" so we will not have much time to see him before he has to head down to GC...

Any one else experience this following PIR? Wondering how much time we will have...

Interesting to hear about the delays. My son Aaron will be PIR on 27 Feb and ships to GC on 04 March He was chosen for ET even though his first pick was EM and he had a high qual score but needs of the Navy. It is good o hear that they are getting BS back on track. My wife heard a rumor that they were thinking about opening Idaho again but that is just a rumor for us that would be great since we live in Montana. Aaron also wants fast attack subs. We will just have to see how things go in GC for him

Nuke Dads- I have been following the conversation about New York Prototype and can feel your pain. My son Jason is an ET in NF A School and may very well be in the holding pattern you all are seeing. From my sources they are correcting the situation in New York but it will take some time and they are down to one sub prototype in GC now also, so training is bottlenecked. Like some have said enjoy the time ashore and sea duty will come soon enough. Jason is surface as I was but I qualified at S1W in Idaho and then back to A1W as an instructor also in Idaho. I see how pround you all are and to go through the program then your son follows ,is hard to describe but makes one feel good is an understatement. Those with son,s or daughters on hold hang in there and give them support they need it.

Yes, Jeff, I am extremely proud of my son and I know he will do well in his training. I was on two fast attack subs and a Sub tender, but it looks lik my son is leaning towards surface (carrier) duty. He is still undecided.

I really enjoyed my time at prototype in NY, and I am sure Nick will enjoy the extra time ashore. The fleet isn't going anywhere, and he will still have plenty of time left to go out to sea and qualify in Subs.

Thanks for the encouragement Jim. I am probably more frustrated for Nick than he is with the situation. Nick is an MM and did "A" school in GC and plans on sub duty., hoping for "fast attack".
I am very proud of him as you are of Aaron. And I want to thank you also for serving our country.
