Not sure if any of you are from my hometown, but this is an article about a guy from Shamokin, PA. Family friend and really nice guy.

That's very sad, Randy.  Sometimes, when young people are away from home for the first time, they try to make up for "lost time" very quickly.  I certainly saw it when I was in the Navy.  Hopefully, your son will be able to deal with the loss of a close friend.  We'll keep him in our prayers, as well as the family of his friend.

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would take a moment to pass on some info. I have a 19 (soon to be 20) year old sailor, currently trying to get his Dolphins. The news from home is he lost a childhood/highschool friend this weekend. His friend Sam was found dead in his dorm room, at VA Tech, this weekend (we suspect alcohol contributed). Please pass on to each of your sailors a warning of the consequences of bad judgement and thinking that they are emmortal.

I know my son found out what an Irish bar was like, when he went overseas last year. Fortunately, he knew when to stop. I always worry about the peer pressure that can sometimes cloud their judgement, just re-assure them to always remember what my wife always says to our three sons: "If you think it might be wrong, it is wrong, DON'T DO IT"

We are all very proud of our sailors and trust that they will do the right thing, but a gentle reminder once in a while, doesn't hurt. Please keep the Wendler family in your prayers.   Randy

Randy ~ Very cool! I'm glad to hear he is doing well and enjoying it! I have downloaded the Skype software but we haven't used it yet.
We had a very nice Thanksgiving here in Easton. We heard from David a couple times and he seems to be doing well. As for now, he is training on the #1 jet, the Boss's. He has phone answering duty today in an office and back to the long training days tomorrow.

Hi guys,
Just heard a couple of times from my son via e-mails this past week. Technology is so great at this time. My wife has been e-mailing others on the NavyMoms website. We found out about video skyping today. While we were on facebook, he was on from a base in Crete. We were able to set up our account and see video of him while we were talking. So Cool! Sounds like he has enjoyed all the ports of call. As they used to say "Join the Navy and see the world" He has already been in 5 countries in the past month. He tells us that he is a hot runner on the boat. He seems to like everything he's doing. We think he will be back to Groton this year. Hope you've had a great Thanksgiving and God Bless our Sailors.

Randy,
Tell your son that an old Diesel Boat Sailor wishes him the best.

Hi Guys,
I don't get on here as often as I would like, hope that I can change that. My son wrote today. He is currently somewhere in the open sea, trying to earn his Dolphins. This is his first deployment in other words he is a NUB. He is just caught up to his boat about 12 days ago. He spent a year in Bess / A -school in Groton, CT. This is his first time out of the country. They flew him and 5 other sailors to Bahrain / Qutar, then on to their boat. He is extremely anxious to get thru his Quals.

Sincerely Randy from Southern York County.

Yes, I am a member of the Airdales. As I understand it, the Blues fly 7 jets to each show. Six of them perform in the shows and the #7 pilot acts as the liason/announcer and takes celebrities, etc, up for rides. Each jet has 2 Crew Chiefs assigned and they split the travel for the shows; there are only 7 pilots and they fly at every show. About 50 or so members fly to each show.
