Kyle made it to Pensacola and is now in Indoc. I have come to believe that in Navy terms, Indoc means: grass cutter, head cleaner........haha. He is already enjoying some of his new found freedoms, he purchased a new lap top and insisted that I overnight his cell phone to him. Hopefully he'll have it today.

He arrives on the 17th to Pensacola, not sure which facility he will be at...... as an old navy vet I really enjoyed the PIR from the "other" side LOL I am still in shock that some of the traditional things have changed. One of the first noticable things are the summer uniforms..... I like the "peanut butters" BUT the white shirt and white pants were SHARP!! and you knew the navy guys.....When I seen the Peanut butters it reminded me of marines.......thats just not right LOL

Stan, it also depends where your son is, sailors at Corry Station tend to move through their phases a lot faster than those at NAS, as Corry is a bit more laid back, since they are mainly computer geeks. When he was there for A/C schools he had has cell and laptop from almost day one.

When will my son be allowed to bring his car to Pensacola?

Our son, Lynch, heads to Pensacola this coming Tuesday (8/17). He's extremely excited about this next phase of his training (A school) and the challenges it represents. His mother and I are also QUITE proud of him and pleased that he has elected to serve our country in the U.S. Navy!!!

No prob..........I went to a recruiting web site. Son is a CTN2 at Corry
Here is a link to the local newspaper that covers NAS and Corry, the link can be a pain sometimes to get to work, but it keeps you up to date on some of the "highlights" there.

Thanks David, that's the best description I have heard yet. I've done a lot of IT for a DOD agency but nothing like this. Thanks.

ITJob Description
As a Navy IT specialist, you will be taught to handle the responsibility of working with mainframe computers, local and wide area networks, and microcomputer systems. In an operations area, you may set up video surveillance that provides a feed to your Commander and help U.S. forces keep watch for other forces.

Specific Responsibilities
While working with potentially classified material and providing technical support to deployed units, you may also:

Write programs to handle data for a wide variety of applications
Operate and coordinate automated networks, datalinks and circuits
Apply diagnostic, corrective and recovery techniques to information systems
Collect and analyze communication signals
Provide telecommunications and computer-related training and assistance
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on state-of-the-art equipment
Operate and maintain a global satellite telecommunications system
Work Environment
As a member of this field, you will ensure the all-important communications link between units anywhere – land, sea or air. Whether working on a site in the United States or ports in Korea, Japan, Australia, Okinawa, Thailand, Singapore or Bahrain, the job is extremely hands-on.

That's what Kyles rate is too. Can be a variety of things from computer repair, software programming, maintainence, etc. I think it depends on how well they do in certain areas of the A school.
