Congrats to all the dads that have just experienced PIR. Jim's right...the Navy does it 1st class!!! My daughter's PIR was 10/16/2010 and then she went to P'cola for A school. We went down to spend Thanksgiving with her and it was awesome. We stayed at the Navy Lodge (on base) and it was very convenient to be close to her. We really enjoyed P'cola and the area around there. The aviation museum was amazing!! My dad was a WW II Navy veteran and served on the USS Ticonderoga. To actually "see" and experience many of the things that he always told me about was very impressive. I would love to go back again some time for sure. I don't think that'll be happening soon...my daughter is on the USS Harry S Truman and is deployed right now. It's an amazing time in her life and we're naturally concerned for her and all of our sailors on deployment but we are so proud of them!! "Fair sea's and followings"...God bless them!

My son graduated boot camp on Friday, Aug 6th. He will be going to Pensacola for his A school training. We are hoping he will leave Great Lakes this Wednesday but he does not have orders yet. This is a great site, loaded with great information. I know I will be checking in often. God Bless.

Hi everyone, my daughter starts A school next week..What a great site this is...My daughter graduated from boot on July 9th...People say to us, "you must be vary proud of her"..When I hear that my first thought is, it's beyond proud. I don't know if there is actually a word for it..It's hard to describe the feeling...

Well said Jim. :-) Mike, you get a discount if you are a Priority Club member. Also offer to pre-pay for your room and they will knock off about $15-$20 per night

FYI made reservations with HIE, but they don't give discounts to parents, of young Sailors Graduating from A school. Any one know of Hotels with discounts for us.

We just got back from a great weekend in P'Cola. As I posted earlier, we stayed at the new Holiday Inn Express on New Warrington Road just a few minutes from Corry. I recommend the Hotel to others, the same for Enterprise at the Airport. There was SO much to do, we had a ball. We packed a lot into 4 days, mini golf, go carts, Pensacola beach, the mall, a movie, NAS Air Museum-which is a MUST. Were there a good 4 hours and still wanted to do more. We sampled day time and night time at the beach, both were very nice.
