The Navy rates are pretty full right now which makes it tough to advance. I thought I read where they are over 100% manned and they are offering some rates up to 24 month early outs. With the job situation in the civilian world not pretty more sailors are staying in or at least trying to.

Hey Denise,James went up for P.O. 2 this time, but from talking to him he really didn't think he did that good on this advancement test... So I know he for one will not be upset.. He'll just shoot for the one prior to their next deployment!!! And he had an E.P. or Early Promote recommendation !!!

Have a good one !!!

If your waiting to hear if your Seabee passed the advancement test. I heard and read that out of 7 Seabb rates that there was not a single bee in any rank that advanced.

Guess there is a lot of really pissed off Seabees.

oops... my bad...after "fair game" I should have typed, The things we would send James were "DVD's for him to play" and so on !!!!

Hey Jon,the things  you can not send are the obvious ones ... booze, weapons, drugs, you get the idea!!!everything else is pretty much fair game.. DVD's for him to play on his laptop, sunscreen, certain snacks that he likes, his chew, until he quit{:-) and he went thru a fair amount of Crystal Lite that he could mix with the water in his Camelback to make it a little more tolerable to drink.. packages take between 2 and 3 weeks and since you are shipping to a different country you have to fill out some sort of declaration form of what you are sending.. The post office will have the shipping boxes and the forms needed to ship the boxes!!! Best of luck !!!!!

Thanks for the info. I didn't know there were different groups. I thought they all deployed at the same time. I like the idea of sending care packages once a week, we'll do that...Are there certain things your not allowed to ship and how long does it ussually take for packages/letters to arrive?

Jon,if your sons hits his battalion before they deploy then he will more than likely be headed over there with his unit.. only question is which group he will leave with... advanced party, main body or delayed party....When James was over there everybody in the family took a turn sending him a care package once a week... novels, weight lifters gloves for the work they were doing(fingerless)powder for his feet, munchies, carpenters pencils.. you name it,we sent it to him !!!!!!! Tell your son best of luck, have fun and thanks for his service !!!

Steve......As of right now his orders are for the sand box with only 26 days of training. It's possible he may join his battalion in mid deployment to gain more training if they don't feel he is ready. But as you know with the Navy things can change at any moment..

Steve Hilty..... Dan will be with Andrew and i guess they've already talked. He's glad that he will know someone there from A-school. Right now he's enjoying is leave. HOORAH!!!!!

I know kids that check into command and a week later was deployed. They have a deployment schedule. ANd if June is when they are due to go then they all go. I do know in the past that if they are already gone and someone if added to the unit they will be sent to them. Just depends on how much time they have left out.
