Jon.where is your son being deployed to? 60 to 90 days does sound a little short if he is going to the sand box,but there should be enough people in his unit that this is not the first time around for some of them and they will have a wealth of info that your son can lean on.. Also since it is his first deployment I think the people in his unit will watch out for your son and the rest of the newer SeaBees little closer... I know my son had plenty of help his first time over and he had been with his unit for at least 10 months... They are prepped very thoroughly before they deploy!!!

My son Andrew is an EA at NMCB1 also. He is currently going through Expeditionary Combat Skills (ECS) ( 6 weeks) and has about 2 weeks left. Mostly involves land navigation (map reading), small unit tactics, combat first aid, small arms and M4/M16 training. There are also fleet sailors going through the training. He says the training is interesting. Doesn't think much of the MRE's.....

After training he will go back to battalion a see if they deploy.

WELL THE GOOD NEWS IS MY SON DANNY GRADUATED A-SCHOOL (EA) WITH HONORS AND WE GOT TO BRING HIM HOME WITH US FOR A LITTLE WHILE. HE WILL BE JOINING NMCB1 IN GULFPORT AND THEN (THE BAD NEWS) HE WILL BE DEPLOYED IN JUNE. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH TRAINING THEY REQUIRE BEFORE HEADING OFF FOR DEPLOYMENT? ONE MONTH SEEMS A LITTLE SHORT!

WE ARE VERY PROUD PARENTS.....

My Son Andrew justed started CTS this week. He is enjoying (right word?) Gulfport and the training. Of course he said anything is better than Leonard Wood. I can see him starting to associate with a lot of new frinds and he likes the comradery of the Seabees. Ah, the beginnings of a "dirt" sailor....

Jon,I was talking to my son today and he says that there are different states for A-schools ,but all Seabees go to Gulfport for CTS now... Seems the Navy figured out that 4 days was not enough time to learn all of the things that were needed in a combat environment at the same place as A-school... The school last about 28 days if memory serves me correct....
