Our son worked hard to prepare for boot camp during the lockdown. He created a work out room on our front porch when school and gyms closed down.
Our son worked hard to prepare for boot camp during the lockdown. He created a work out room on our front porch when school and gyms closed down. Kept a strict daily schedule for himself of keeping up with current events, studying nutrition and health, helping out the family, and working out, even though he could have slacked off with no requirements imposed on him except that we don't let the kids sleep past 8AM. He also convinced his best friend to join and they went running together. He is a natural born leader. Previously, he started a workout club at our local high school, was a team leader in his basketball team, and the only male in the advanced classes. He was made to be a Sailor and planned to advance through the ranks and retire from the Navy.

That all came crashing to a halt when he had what can only be described as an "out of body experience" where against his better judgement and against his will, he stood up during the MOT and "confessed" to taking an antihistamine for a stopped up nose. He had already passed the physical fitness test and was going to be awarded the bonus for that. He also has a total of around $30,000 in bonuses for his job and referring his friend.

We haven't received a call in over a week, (the only call that we received was from his surprised and disappointed recruiter. We were all stunned into silence and then tears also.), but we did receive a letter from him apologizing and explaining that he is appealing, and will wait as long as it takes, and do whatever he has to do, to get back to training and become a sailor. He has had a spiritual renewal, so he is reading the Bible and praying every day, keeping his bunk made, reading "Killing Patton" by Bill Oreilly, Writing in his journal, working out in the back of the large windowless room (with over 200 other guys), and trying to follow all of the rules. He does have friends of people there for medical release at least, but he says that he is the only one trying to get back to training. We were very relieved to get that letter and hear that he hasn't given up.

Is there any advise? I did speak with someone at Legal who said that it is not uncommon for recruits to be sent back to training because the Commander doesn't WANT to send these guys home. But, that it all depends on what he said (we didn't know at the time). In Brendan's letter, he said that the legal team felt good about his chances of getting back in. I also sent Brendan a letter requesting for him to sign the waiver so that we can receive info. Besides, that is there anything that we can do to assist with the appeal? Would it help to send proof of his good character and achievements, and/or references? He is hoping that since he has so many bonuses they will just choose to punish him by taking money from him. He doesn't care, he just wants to get back in.

Thank you for reading all of this, and for your previous emails of support. It really meant a lot to hurting and anxious hearts.

Sincerely,

Jay&Jean Henry

Hi, I am hoping to gain some insight, support, guidance on how to handle what is going on with my son. I got a call yesterday and he told me he was being medically separated and would most likely be coming home and that they gave him 2 anxiety screeners. He did not have long to talk but I could tell he sounded defeated. I immediately went to the website and read all I could on separation and ship 5, then I wrote to him to tell him to sign the HIPPA form. I have not called legal or the separation administration office because I don't even know what to ask them. Should I call? What do I ask? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
12 days before he turns 20 and his times would qualify he's being separatedtag:navydads.com,2018-09-19:2150375:Topic:5110392018-09-19T00:12:13.465ZPatrick J.
Hi, I'm new here and would just maybe like to get some advice if there is anything to do. My son tweaked his back a bit right at the point of the final 1.5 mile test and missed the time by 14 seconds. For the next 10 times he was hurting pretty bad and slowed way down, but by the last attempt was able to come back to 12:29 again. The part that is frustrating is that he turns 20 in 12 days, which would make his time fine. It was such a bummer for us all to be so close. His recruiter convinced…

Hello, my son was sent off to BC on 2/27/18 and on 3/6/18 he was in the hospital for a breakdown. On 3/13/18 he was in SEPS. We only found out because we hadn't received any letters or phone calls or any type of contact. After a string of phone calls he finally called us and we found out that he was being sent to Ship5 for adjustment disorder after having a breakdown. He was pretty heartbroken and feeling homesick, and as you can imagine so were we. He felt disappointed and I'm sure probably embarrassed. We let him know that we loved him and were not disappointed in him at all for seeking something out himself and pursing it, but that we just wanted him home. He was enlisted for Nuke and I know they invested in his background check and other stuff. My question is, can they pull him back from Ship5 and put him back into RTC after he was sent to ship5 for adjustment disorder? The doctor deemed him good to go and at one point in talking to one of the Chiefs (I don't remember his name) they said he was in the hospital and was ok and would prob be able to continue boot camp. The next thing we knew he was on Ship5 and told us he was prob coming home. Since then we've had 2 phone calls from him telling us everything was ok but he hadn't talked with legal yet so he didn't really have any information yet. We haven't heard from him in a week and I'm just wondering if it's possible that they might pull him back to RTC? We're so confused and worried right now. We just want him to come home, and from what it sounded like in the previous calls he was ready to come home but disappointed that he failed. I don't believe he failed. He was so very much looking forward to being a Navy Nuke and we were ecstatic for him. He is super super intelligent and 100% gung ho american and the Navy would have been lucky to have him. I'm sad for him but if it didn't work out, then it just didn't work out and that's how life goes sometimes. If they did decide to put him back into RTC then I support him all the way and hope and pray it works out for him. Does anyone know anything or have any previous experience with this?
Security Clearancetag:navydads.com,2016-07-03:2150375:Topic:4738522016-07-03T22:13:37.055ZPatrick J. I never heard from her but her boyfriend heard from her for a short call on Wednesday she told him the same things pretty much. I did get a letter she wrote right after she got there said she could have phone calls on Mon. and Wed. and maybe Sat. So I looked for a call on Sat. No call, so I then thought ok on Monday still no call today to anyone. She all so said she would call to get my credit card info so she could use the free computer but never heard from her. She did leave one short post on Facebook right after I talked to her. So it has been six day with no word about what is going on. Is there a reason she may not be able to make her calls? Cause even in the Ship 5 info here it says she should be able to call. I am getting a bit worried.
Ship 5 back to Boot....can it happen? - YES, IT CAN with PIR!!!tag:navydads.com,2014-08-02:2150375:Topic:3950212014-08-02T21:35:34.518ZPatrick J. RTC personnel paperwork review prompted Hospital examination - Navy doctor (as I am told at this point) expressed 'fit for duty' opinion. My son returned to RTC and instead of being able to return to original personnel for final review, a second person was involved, who assigned my son to Ship 5 in preparation to be Separated.

I was able to speak to Legal early morning 1 August 2014; I suspect that person and her colleagues are gathering my son's documents and him as they begin their review.

Late afternoon 2 Aug 2014, my son responded to emails that I had sent reporting that he is working hard to return to training discouraged that he feels alone. ("Dad, I want to be in the Navy, I want to be in training.") I have encouraged him to be positive; eyes and ears open; mouth shut; volunteer for Watch or cleaning or other tasks to keep him active and busy and distanced from unacceptable behavior.

Hoping that some sort of review/appeal occurs while he is still at RTC as he disclosed this information during every phase of his enlistment application process and to his knowledge had been granted the necessary waivers because he continued to move forward and be accepted.

Co-Admin Jim has been very helpful since I found Navy Dads a couple of weeks ago now and certainly through all of this. Hoping and praying my son is able to return as it was his understanding that proper waivers were obtained before he arrived at RTC. Posting the discussion certainly hoping for my son's return to training, but also to help other families who may face this challenge in the future......
In need of help for SRtag:navydads.com,2014-02-28:2150375:Topic:3776512014-02-28T06:48:31.439ZPatrick J.
