Ok so let me get this straight cause Im new to all this, the Ike is going to Syria to handle some business and if they need help they will send another ship which will extend the deployment?

That or send the Truman. Either way it could get rough and ugly. I just keep praying for all of their safety!

If this situation in Syria does not resolve itself in a timley manner...even though Ike's replacement may be on the way over....they may keep two carrier Strike groups there until things get resolved....despite the Sequestration....kind of makes sense don't it???

Everyone just relax! I never said they were on a different schedule, just that the Nimitz was on its way. Kimberly, yes traditionally they have had a 2 strike group presence since the 90's. However with the sequester, they are trimming it to one these days.

The Ike is still on their same schedule, it hasn't changed. If you really think about the schedule they had, the Nimitz leaving out now makes sense because just as long as it takes for the Ike to get wherever, I'm sure it probably takes around the same time to get back. Remember that this is something they have to make-up of what already should have been completed

Yes Shabar, but it is nice to know they have started on their way!

I was hoping I just was behind in my info as to the return date, apparently not..thank you

I think the Nimitz just has to get started on their own journey to relieve the Ike, knowing what I know, but being mindful of Opsec the Ike hasn't started heading back and probably won't until The Nimitz probably gets close to them
