Same here. Just got a call from my son using a Chief's cell phone with a caller ID from Florida. Kinda confused me at first. My son went to A school to be an AZ, graduated the top of his class, chose his squadron, and immediately began to strike for an AD rate. His first deployment, been in the Navy less than a year, and he is troubleshooting on the flight deck!

About sailors calling home, ours called us Friday and said he was using a  prepaid cell phone,I forget how much it was but I think it was good for like 300 or400 minutes,I could be wrong. Its worth checking into, call was clear as if he was here,he was calling from GREECE.

Mark,  I actually had to go look up what an SA was.  I'm new to this, but learning.  Folks on this site have helped a lot.  My son has a similar story, and decided to be an AD with the E-2C.  He loves what he does.  He e-mailed me the other day all excited about having launched his first bird.  Said he almost got blown over...

My son is a SA in Deck Division 2nd.  He was in A school for Nav ET Submarine and decided he did not what to be on a sub.  They gave him the option to go to the fleet and strick into a rate that is what is doing now.  He is going to try and strick into ET/NAV surface

Andy.. you say he's a petty officer first, second, or third class petty officer..MMFN is the step right before petty officer (E3). My husband MM3 Presley,  is a conventional so he doesn't work in the reactor space..he works in the   re-boiler space..im not sure but maybe  they have run into eachother but is he a Nuke or is he conventional?. I think that im going to get to hear from him tomorrow so ill ask him then if he knows  an Andrew Peters.

Mark, They are in the electronics section.  Don't ask me how to get your son to make the call.  I'm still workin' on that...
