Sounds like a plan Tim! My wife, daughter, and I were thinking of driving down (we live in Washington) and spending a few days down in SD since we have two sons on board and they may have Liberty at different times while there.

Just a thought as it appears a few of us will be in San Diego when the Stennis pulls in.  Last year when it came in, the USS Stennis and Family Facebook page did a meet and greet the day before at the USS Midway. They gave us a private deck space to meet along with free admission to the ship for anyone in our group. It was nice to put a face to some of the folks we chat with, plus as a bonus we got to watch the HSC-8 Eightballers fly in formation under the Coronado Bridge as they came in to North Island from the ship.  If this sounds good, maybe we can arrange a Navy Dads meet and greet in the same location.  I live in Oregon but would be happy to make some phone calls.

Due to sailor being in the states for month of Feb for schooling no TC again this deployment.  Apparently before he left the ship the info wasnt out & the deadline was the 18th & he doesnt get back to the ship until beginning of March. Needless to say he is disappointed and he didnt even know the info was available as he hasnt had contact with the ship. :(

He does need his car as we are storing it so I'll be driving it out there & will get to see them pull into shore when they get back to WA. Gonna be a long car drive from WI...

Not going to make the TC this year but we have decided to meet up with the ship when it pulls into San Diego for a few days!

Kris,

Fortunately, this does not come under OPSEC (as it is phrased). This does, however, come under rumors and other gossips. So far, there hasn't been any official word of another extension.

Not sure if this answer would be OPSEC if it is msg me in private please, has anyone heard from their sailor they might extend the deployment again?

I am sorry to say that I will not be going on Tiger Cruise. Needs of the family are taking precedence. I will, however, be in San Diego when our Sailors return.

Stennis sailors get tipped off...

AT SEA - Sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) now have the opportunity to save money on transportation thanks to a fresh “tip.”

The Transportation Incentive Program (TIP) is intended to reduce federal employees’ contribution to traffic congestion, air pollution, and to expand commuting alternatives. The Department of Transportation, on behalf of the DOD purchases and distributes transit vouchers for Department of Navy participants.

“I think it’s a great program,” said Logistics Spc. 1st Class (SW/AW) Eric Gomez, from San Diego, Stennis’ TIP coordinator. “It helps sailors who don’t live in the Bremerton area, and have to commute back and forth every day, save money.”

Acceptable methods of mass transportation include commuter bus, vanpool, commuter train, subway; light rail, and ferry for foot passenger only.

More than 60 sailors enrolled in the TIP program last year.

“The TIP program is an outstanding way of encouraging the use of public transportation and allowed me to save both time and money in my daily commute,” said Lt. Ron Rumfelt, from Oak Harbor, Wash. “As an added benefit, Washington state has some of the best mass transit and public transportation available in the country.”

Sailors interested in the program must submit a typed hard copy application no later than Feb. 18 to the air logistics office. Once the application is submitted, they will be interviewed by Gomez who will determine whether or not the sailor qualifies for the program. If approved, sailors will normally receive vouchers for transportation within two months.

The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group (JCSCSG), consisting of Stennis, Carrier Air Wing 9, Destroyer Squadron 21, and guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) are forward deployed to the U.S. 5TH Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts and support missions for Operation Enduring Freedom.
