This is a Great pic of the J.S.  As our Grandson said on his first deployment, "When you are asleep, we are protecting your freedom".  The other side is this pic... when they rest we go to work.  God Bless them all, they work hard.  Note the year date on this pic.;-)  I guess we all have a 'hiccup' on yearly changes of dates.  I thought I was the only one.   Wild Bill.

Our son is Cranking right now as well. When I was in they called it first LT. but it is the same. All sailors have the duty to do it. Its not fun but you can make the best of it. I met my best friend in the Navy during that time and we still keep in touch.

We got a chance to Skype with our son yesterday morning! What a great present!

all sailors get to spend time in the galley/mess- it's not fun duty...."affectionately" known as "cranking" oh....and that's typically 60 to 90 days worth

Good morning to ALL!!

What do they mean by "cranking"?....

Thank you.

We got a call from both sons for a Christmas present this year!!! So nice to hear from them, they enjoyed liberty with each other and friends. Our youngest is happy this will be his last week 'cranking' and will go back to his old duty station soon. Deployment is at the halfway now!!!!!

Merry Christmas to all onboard, and their Moms and Dads. This applies to those in the sand box and out and about too.
