Two to three weeks is pretty typical for FPO addresses...had my kids in the Navy since '05....anticipate and plan accordingly

Well, our latest experience is that mail is arriving in about two weeks time from mailing (central Ky).  This has been our experience for the last 4-5 packages that we have sent.  I suspect your package is on its way but where it is is anyone's guess.

Well, another comment about mail.  We sent Shane some packages and using the USPS tracking system, I can't tell if they are still in Chicago, or on their way to the Truman.  The USPS website shows them checked into Chicago on April 7th, but no departure date.  But, the text below the arrival information then states "Your item arrived at our USPS facility in CHICAGO, IL 60701 on April 7, 2016 at 8:00 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination."  I will call the USPS but anybody have any idea if this means it is already on its way?

Update, after several hops, skips, and jumps in Spain, Italy, and Greece, Shane ended up on the Truman and while he is working hard, he loves it.

My boy is landing in Norfolk shortly, scheduled to end up on the Truman soon.  In Pensacola they told him it would be one of three scenarios; first he could be flown to the Truman via transport and land on the ship at sea.  Second, he could wait in Bahrain for it to return, if it does.  And third, he could be flown to the next port of call.  No matter what, he is excited to be on the ship and serving.

I heard from my son on Sunday as well. He too said mail delivery has been sketchy at best, receiving some packages and letters but not getting as many as reported being sent.  Is there an example of how to properly fill out a shipping label?  My confidence in the person behind the counter at the post office isn't lighting up any stars in the night.

Wife and I talked with our son yesterday around 1pm (2200 his time).  He was in good spirits and advised that he and his group of sailors really enjoyed their most recent port call.  He said mail delivery to the ship was very slow right now.  Since deployment we have mailed him 6 packages and he has only received 2 of them so far.  Disappointing to hear that.  Otherwise things seem to be going well, although he is already starting to worry about how much work will need to be done on the ship when they return to Norfolk!

Heard from our daughter when they got into port.  I had emailed her after Iranian exercise made news. I was surprised how close they were.  I gathered they've been dealing with them since got into region.

There is always a sub somewhere around a carrier on cruise

Does anyone know if a sub is on this cruise with the Truman?
