NAVY SEAL FAMILIES (NSW)

NAVY SEAL FAMILIES: Questions & Answers To What Your Sailor Will Be Doing During Navy SEAL, BUD/S, & SWCC Training.

  • Kevin

Hi Marvin, my son joined with a SWCC contract but cancelled it during boot camp. When asked he said he felt he wasn't ready yet, but I know he's still interested. Blessings, Kevin

Just read about two experienced SEALS who gave their lives in Afganistan during combat, plus another who drowned there last week. May the Lord bring His peace and comfort to their families and friends.

My son is in the pre-BUD/s program with class 275? We went to GL a couple of weeks ago and he is doing well. Very sorry to hear about the two that died in Afganistan last week, my heart and prayers go out to the families and friends.

My Son dropped out of Arizona State University after sophomore year to join Navy. Has a BUD/S contract, but just left for Basic in GL today. Mom's crying. Has spent six months training like a banchee and is in top shape. Now for the mental. High hopes for a great basic then success at BUD/S.
Question - Should we go to GL graduation, or wait/hope for success in BUD/S? We have three others children, so $ tight.
    Appreciate insight.

    J,
good to have you with us, welcome. If he just went into bootcamp, he will get out of the shape he is in, that will be the first mental test. My son and others snuk into the head and did push ups at every chance. Don't worry too much they get them back into shape in pre-BUD/S. As a word of advice, you need to delete his name from your discripstion, as well as yours. The instructors use anything they can find on these sites and his old face book, my-space, etc... My son has been in pre-BUD/S for a while now and will ship out right after Christmas. You and your wife be well and be proud. Thank him for his service when you get the chance.

Wife talked with recruiter today and she told her that our son would be in some Special Warefare Basic training. Has anyone ever heard of a special basic training for SEAL candidates? Can't find any info online about this.
  • EC

    Jay,

M finished basic for special forces division just recently. as a part of that division they get, maybe, 2 hours in the morning before regular basic training pt. The basic pt is not much, but that is what "pre-BUD/S" is for. M called the other night and said it was a lite day when they only ran 8 miles. Try to get you more information later.

Do you folks mind if I join the SEAL Dads since my son is trying for EOD or is there a separate EOD group I should link up with? LMK- thanks. Raymond S.

Ray, fine by me. Is it a special warefare unit? Where is your son in the process? As you may have seen below, mine started sw basic this week. Still trying to learn more aobut what he up to now. Have read about BUD/S, but not found much on sw basic. Thank your son for his service to this great country.

Ray, checked out EOD. Very impressive, and it looks like they work closely with SEAL's.

Got R's box today. My wife also got his address at Great Lakes. Found one guys family who is definitely on the same timing and track, so that's nice. The more I learn about what my son has undertaken, the more stressful it is. Know that he'll do his best...just so hard to remember what it was like to be 20, can't even begin to imagine what he's going through. Oh well, I know it'll make him stronger no matter the outcome.

Got our first letter today. Hope he gets to see the one's we've sent. He sounds upbeat and raring for more.

SW basic is a boot camp division dedicated to those in the specwar community. While most of their classes and training is the same, there may be more rigorous PT. Glad you welcome SEAL, SWCC, EOD, and ND (all specwar) to this page.

Or they can take away their PT to punish them as most RDC's have figured out that these guys LOVE getting extra PT as punishment and now take away PT! My son was so frustrated by that....but they find ways "around" not getting enough PT during boot, they just need to be creative!

My Grandson and some friends he made in GL would go swimming in Lake Michigan on there own. Only problem I have with finding that out is they started training in GL in early Feb. It had to be cold. They were just getting wet and sandy, practice I guess.

My wife and I are flying to Coronado Saturday to visit with our Grandson. We will return back Tuesday or Wednesday. We are staying at the Navy Lodge across from NSW Training. Will try to remember the lay of the land if anyone has question of where things are. Will try to check in here while I am out there.

    Everyone have a Great Weekend.
