Not a whole lot of traffic on class 288.   Has anyone set up class 289??

Got word today that 287 has completed indoc.

  • NavyDads Co-Admin, Calvin

To my knowledge there is not a 289 yet. 288 is still in GL.
  • troopers dad

Ok Grandpa.  Well I will can set up 289 but running 2 groups I will need help if they take off

  • NavyDads Co-Admin, Calvin

Someone will probably come on and want to start one for that Group. I work with some many groups and sites not I am not sure I could really keep up with the demands. I join all the Special Ops groups since I can help answer some of their question as I am BTDT. I also check all the Groups for OPSEC and other items.
  • troopers dad

OK..  My son's foot is not healing like they wanted, so he has been rolled to 289.

is anyone going out the end of march to the graduation ? even tho we arnt invited to the ceremonies there is still after the fact and the weekend .  to celebrate ?
  • Jerry M

Hey Mark! What late-March graduation are you referring to? We're planning a trip in mid-March (to visit our youngest son after Class 287 secures Hell Week).

We made a similar trip in 2009 (after our oldest son in Class 277 was secured). He said that knowing we would be there "on the other side" of Hell Week helped him get through it!
  • Mark Laredo

completion of BUD/S for 2 8 6.  got some feedback that this may be a time for them to celebrate as a group and not a good time perhaps for parents to visit?  anyone have any thoughts or experiences to share that may help us decide if a wise time to visit?
  • Jerry M

Congrats to your son for completing BUD/S! We didn't visit after our oldest finished. They certainly had a party amongst themselves -- but were very busy preparing for SQT. And on top of it all -- they have to find their own housing immediately after BUD/S (to make room for the next incoming Class to occupy space at NAVSPECWARCEN).
  • Jackct

We're heading out , as are 2 other couples from New England according to N4M.

  • Jerry M

My son, too!  Hoo Yah Class 287!!
  • Jackct

Best of luck to all of you w/ your sons in BUD/S , Class 287. JerryM has been thru this before, & can offer a lot of info & support . I read the posts of those before me;researched EVERYTHING! The BUD/S experience seems to be an ever evolving one. All I can offer for your guys is : FOCUS, FOCUS ,FOCUS! It's threading the needle . HOOYA! Class 287 & 286!!!

If anyone wants  more detail from our recent experience, such as it is, pm me.

  • Jerry M

Jack, enjoy your visit to Coronado. Telll your son congrats from all of us. Hoo Yah 286!
  • NavyDads Co-Admin, Calvin

Welcome new members. 286 and 287 are in for some fun. My Grandson was a member of Class 273.

HooYah Class 286, Class 287 and all the other Classes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Jerry M

    Hoo Yah Grandpa!
  • Jerry M

We heard from our son in Class 287 last night, too!  So far so good! Let's pray for ALL of our SEALs. Hoo Yah 287!
  • Jerry M

BUD/S Class 287 begins Hell Week tonight sometime after sundown. As a praying man -- I'll be doing A LOT of that this week for my own son, and for many of your sons as well. I wanted to share something else with all of you that certainly helped our family through my oldest son's Hell Week a couple of years ago (and it seemed to help him too -- he's now SEAL Team 2)!

This week, whenever YOU enjoy a moment of comfort -- imagine that YOUR SON is feeling that comfort, too.  When YOU wake-up refreshed from a good night's sleep -- imagine that YOUR SON is strengthened by that rest, too. And when YOU enjoy your warm bed, or a hot meal, and (especially) a hot shower -- imagine that YOUR SON is also "feeling" that warmth!

Right now -- our sons may be "physically" far away from us -- but through our prayers, and our thoughts, and our good intentions for them -- we, as good Navy Dads, can always be "with" our sons as they face the challenges they have so bravely volunteered to undertake.

    HOO YAH 287!

  • NavyDads Co-Admin, Calvin

    Jerry M, very well said.
  • Jerry M

John, Good luck to Punchy! We're heading to Coronado for a visit. Can't wait to see them after they've secured Hell Week!
  • Jackct

    Guys,

Best of luck to your guys as they hit HW!! I wish we had Jerry's post when 286 went thru it. Grandpa, too,  has been a soothing voice for my wife, both here & on N4M.  We will be with you every day till " Class 287, you are secured" is announced.

    HOOYA, 287

  • Jerry M

Jackct, Thanks for the Hoo Yah for 287! And a great big Hoo Yah right back at ya -- for 286! Again, enjoy your Coronado visit later this month -- when they complete BUD/S. We Navy Dads need to stick together.

  • NavyDads Co-Admin, Calvin

Guys, hope all of you have a nice trip to Coronado and get to meet and be with your guy. On my page I have 2 Blogs, one about visiting my GS between Phase I and II and the other about going to SQT Graduation. I have some of the places we went and what we did. If you are going it might help and if you have question on the area I might be able to help or at least contact friend we made in Coronado and ask them for information.

  • RAY ALVAREZ

Visiting with the boys of Class 288...  busy today cleaning quarters and preping for first inspection.  Some tried their hands on the O course today...   A great place to get your uniform dry cleaned is A B Brite in Imperial Beach,  for hair cuts,  Barber shop next to Ace Hardware in Coronado, boys should ask for the BUDS cut.  Just a little info for your boys...    Go get them CLASS 288!

  • Tony

HooYah Class 287 !! Congrats to all these brave men and to the proud fathers who have raised such great men. HooYah to all those before and those who will follow. My son was just HW secured in 287. Good luck as your journey with your boy continues and Godspeed to you all !

  • Jackct

    Lance,

I'm with  you!! it's been a long spell since any contact. We've watched the class 234 video a few times, but it seems as if that series wasn't very indicative of what these classes really go through. Felt for the 287 folks willing their sons thru HW. To them, best of luck thru Phases 2. If your guy was rolled, it will all shake out! This is quite a ride!

  • NavyDads Co-Admin, Calvin

Lance, have gotton a response back from 286 Group?
  • dca

    No not yet Grandpa
  • Jackct

286 is back from the island. Sounds like they had quite a time, altho I didn't get much detail.

    Congrats to all 286'ers!!

  • Toto V

so much learned by great men.....

  • Gingerman

Does anyone know where to buy Woodland BDUs in the Maryland area?
  • Jerry M

Probably any Army/Navy surplus store. That's where I bought mine (in Green Bay). Lots of guys up here use them for deer hunting! :)
  • NDx2

    Steve -try Ranger Surplus...

    http://www.rangersurplus.com/

They have three locations in the Baltimore/DC area.., Rockville, Bethesda and Tysons Corner, VA.

If you were in Daytona Beach I'd say, G.I. Jeff's on ISB- they have it all! Great shop - plan a trip to Florida this summer- catch a race, get a tan and grab a pair of woodlands ;)

  • Ken283

Hi Grandpa...  Just dropping in and reading the posts, and remembering......

Congrats to all your sailors no matter what stage they are at!  It gets NO easier! But if it were easy.... everyone would do it!  It takes a special guy to even begin this process!

  • Jackct

My wife & I spent an extraordinary week w/some of the guys, & red eyed back 4/6. Lance- I tried to hook up w/ your son but didn't. I'll make it up in Nov. Met a number of 286'ers, & it was a great experience. Also, 5/6 guys rolled from 286 that are now 287/288. We wish them well!! Great , dedicated young men that were injured early on w/ 286 that healed & continue to pursue the Dream. I know that a number of you have traveled this hard road before, but I cannot express how impressive these young men- our young men are to meet & spend time with.As 288 concludes week 1 of BUD/S & 287 , having survived HW press on , 286 is on to SQT & it's challenges. To see these guys relate to one another: support one another: & then bust each others chops is quite an experience. A trip to Rosecrans Cemetary & meeting Mike Monsoor's best friend @ the grave  site was an experience I will long remember!

If you can go in Nov , or any time, do not miss the opportunity!!

    Jack

  • Gingerman

What do you tell people when they ask what your son does in the Navy?
My sailor is in a NSW specialty where they aren't even allowed to display their rating badges, nor tell where stationed.
Makes it awkward sometimes, when this question is asked.
  • NDx2

Hi All -- planning a trip to the island next weekend... Any words of wisdom.., especially, where to stay?

    Thx!

  • Jackct

My standard response will be " Actually, I'm not sure- It's a security clearance issue... " When pressed further, .." I know they're gone for quite a while, & we're w/out any info 'til he returns, & even then it's very limited". I guess that makes the folks think the guys are locked in a bunker doing computer stuff or in Subs..My father used the " it's a security clearance issue " when the neighbors used to inquire about him.He was a cold war rocket guy. Then again, he  used it about my oft-times unseemly behavior, too. i think those that know us are certainly aware of the paths the guys have taken. They will be fine with " I'm not sure.." or something akin to that. Those that are  asking for whatever reason will buy the party line. Then again, I'm a relative newcomer to this!
  • Jackct

If you can stay @ the Base Hotel  a the NSW base , it's great!! Contact them asap. We spent the week there for BUD/S graduation, & You over look the Amphibious base , the Pacific & San Diego Bay. Not bad for $42.00 a night. Your son can hook you up w/ a pass for your vehicle & yourselves. See Grandpa's earlier post. have a great time.

  • NDx2

Awesome.., That's perfect! We'll check it out tonight.

Thanks, Jackct! ..appreciate it!  'nado.., here we come ;)

  • Mark Laredo

yes i certainly agree with jackct  the wife and I had a fantastic time on the island and met a few of the parents and their sons, same as jack. the wife and I also stayed at the hotel. we had the 8th floor also overlooking the beach .and the price you cant beat .. its a five star in our eyes . make sure to head up to la joya and swim with the seals the animals  there is a beach where they sun bath on the rocks pretty different than nh . we wont be going back till next april when our son graduates with 287
  • NDx2
