enjoy we sure did the wife and i and have your son get you a pass so as there is no set time you have to be back on base for a 24 hour pass i think its called . you enjoy .and also if you can get the time see old town in down town san diego really neat .
NDx2, you guys will have a ball! The beach access is extraordinary over most of the area. Go to the Del & watch the guys @ the turning bouy for the 2 mile swim. The Rock Portage is @ the Del ,as well. Can't miss it. You can sit on the Del's deck, w/ a view of this . There's a great little breakfast/lunch place next to the ACE hardware store on Orange St. Also, the Boathouse is an 1800's restaurant that we went to w/ 6-7 of the guys & some parents. DO IT! We hit Balboa Park twice. Also, Rosecrans Nat'l Cemetary on PT Loma. It will have significance for your son as they will most likely be taken over there @ some point. A bike path runs the entire distance thru Coronado south to the border. We didn't do it, but I wish we had. Fishing charters are available , & we went out & had a great day. Imperial Beach @ the southern end of the Strand is innteresting & has a pier running out into the Pacific w/ a restaurant @ the end. Basic fare, but what the Hell! Have a great time, & this is NOT a Chamber of Commerce ad.
Jim- I have the feeling this is only the start of an amazing journey that you may never be able to share with us!! Thank him for his dedication and service!!
Congratulations to you & your son for his sucesses & yours!! It's a great accomplishment & thank him for all of us!! Enjoy Coronado if you haven't been yet.
Just want to exspress my thanks to the Men and Families of this community for your sacrafice and dedication...America's Most Wanted Dead! Job well Done.
HooYah! While your SEALs may never get the public recognition for the tasks they accomplish during their careers, this particular American is mighty proud of the Honor, Courage, and Commitment shown by your sons and by the families that have raised such fine sailors!!
I'm so f'ing tired of all, right and left wing press and public figures second dressing what men on the ground did and encountered in the OBL operation, when the ONLY people who know the truth aren't going to talk about it.
montanadad2, the new policy in NSWC is one and done. One chance to become a SEAL only. If they get dropped or DOR they will go to the Fleet. In the past they could try again in a couple of years. As far as SWCC or EOD I am not for sure but will try to get you some info on that, give me a couple of days to check. The One and Done is a very new policy.
Montanadad2, SEAL and SWCC is one and done. They will not be able to try again. I am still waiting on EOD and other Special Ops info.
HooYah to your Son.
Are all SR Divisions in the SO BC equal or do they have a division that they as a recruit aim for. When they show up at BC depending on their scores is there a hierarchy in the Divisions?
After graduation from s.o. bootcamp where do they go from there? And do they recieve any liberty? I guess I would like to know there steps they take and time frames.
Sometime after Graduation they will move across the street to Pre-BUDS. Our GS had Liberty after Graduation till they time they told to be back that night. Then we picked him up each morning and took him back each evening. It is a long walk from where you drop them off to the barracks so get him back early enought for him to walk back and be on time each night. They will move across the street probably after they clean the barracks for the next Class.
I just wanted to say "kudos" for all in this group for always being aware of OPSEC and for being so careful when posting information. Your efforts to monitor yourselves and protect your sailors is appreciated!!
Let's keep all the men (and their families) of BUD/S Class 289 in our thoughts and prayers as they prepare for Hell Week breakout later today. HOO YAH 289!!
Not sure. After your son gets his Ship assignment have him ask there. I do know this -- if food IS allowed he would be advised to have enough to SHARE with his shipmates! :)
@montanadad2 -Jr's mom sent homemade fudge and bags of snickers while he was out there -- Unless the instructors take issue, should be no problem at all. btw, Jerry M is right.., fudge & bars were gone by taps. - just send the whole dang elk.... ;)
NDx2..... Now mom is thinking about sending a whole butchered deer to the boys... when they reach BUDS, to help with food. Burger and jerky! In prebuds they can have food so can he have a pure protein drink powder to make.
@mtdad2, I don't believe the guys are allowed to supplement at all; even protein powder (trying to remember). Check with junior first tho. I know the NEx sells it (Monster Milk and such) - there's a GNC in the GL main exchange, so if it is allowed, I'd suggest sending cash along with the venison burgers ;).
@robodad, send some civies for when your son gets phase-2 liberty (about two weeks after moving across the street). Keep it light tho; you'll be getting it all back in a box just before they ship out to the island. ..and cookies! ..lot's of cookies. Oh, and his cell phone - you'll both be glad he has it.
Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the Integrated Divisions was Div. 219. The All-Male Division title went to Div. 815. Earning top honors for the Motivational Chant was Div. 221.
Mock test today for pre-buds. It was a hot and sticky day in GL and the guys had to lay it down. A little harder then some expected and some didn't see it coming the day after Liberty/leave. Now what's next if times and totals were above? Is this where they are divided into their 3 groups?
Lori, from what I have read and heard I would think that your idea of 3 groups is close but not in a way some want. There should be some new guys going into the pipeline and they need the room for the next class, A post on another site says all the classes for the rest of the year are full, so I would think that the final cut is getting very close.
Well as they say no news is good news so my son must still be in for PIR 7/8 Poor kid,, We just found out when he had his wisdom teeth out they got infected, he got strep, and pinkeye all at once ....held on tho says he more than motivated and very proud to be where his is!!
what has happen with group # 286 my sons origanal group our son is an officer and has gone on to next group but still whats ever happen to # 286 ? any one from that group !
