Welcome Aboard!

My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.

My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.

My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

    EG,
Thanks for the hardy welcome! Our stories have a similiar ring to them. My son Bobby is going to Great Lakes at the end of next week and my wife, Peri was becoming slightly stressed out to say the least. She began to surf around the net and came across the Navyformoms.com site, which led me to find a like site for dads. The Ladies on that site have already done me a great service calming her nerves and informing her of the do's and don'ts. Pass on our thanks and support to Evan.

    Hi EG,
Thank you for creating this site. My wife directed me toward it. This will give all of us the opportunity to let all of the kids know how proud we are of them.

I am glad to be onboard. This is a great site. My son Keith will be on the USS Missouri SSN 780. The boat is the newest of the Virgina class fast attack submarine. The "boat" is under construction due to be christened sometime in Jan. 2010.

hi E.G. Had a question for you. When your sailors or any others that you may know of, did they all first go thru a slight "down" period from being away from home for the first time for any length of time?Just curious because in the first letter we got from my son he seemed a little down. Then again it may just be a dad worrying to much about nothing.Thank you for your time and effort in this site as it has helped us quite a bit.
    Steve !!!!!

E.g. thank you for the words of encouragement.Hope he gets it all worked out.I just don't remember being homesick when i was in,but over time the memory does fade! Our whole family sends him nothing but positive thoughts!I do know that he does get along fine with his shipmates. Thanks again.

could you tell me how to take my last name off my page
  • James M

    Yes Sir,
    Thank you
  • Chuck

    Greetings,
    How's things with Evan??
  • Chuck

Andrew is doing well. The evidence I am getting is that his temp command is watching out for him. The chief came to him and asked about the E-4 exam and is working to get him on the list to take it this spring. The first class is advising him on applying for leave. They also seem to have allowed him time to get his leave days squared away.
He says some days are great , some bad everything else is in between.
  • Cindy

Cindy??? Are you on EG's page?????
  • Cindy

Not totally. If you'd let me know when the best time to call this weekend, I would love to chat with her. It would be nice to hear her voice. Need a good friends ear too.
  • Tom B

Thanks for welcoming me aboard, and also for creating this great forum for proud dads, and loved ones .My son Buck left 2-25-90, and the next 8- 9 weeks cant go fast enough.
  • Chuck

What's up with Evan these days.
  • Chuck

Andrew s settled in much like Evan. He likes almost all of the guys he works with. There are a couple in every crowd...as you know. He is liking Hawaii. During one of our cold snaps he would text several times a day to ask our temp. His roommate works nights and he works days. The transportation is unchanged...Still no wheels. I have been trying to get him to meet some of the Marines as he is on the Marine Base. No interest in that so far.
He found a mistake in his leave. Charged for more days than he took. In the process to get fixed, but it takes time for the paperwork.
He got himself a new phone and plan. WE MADE ONE OF THE FIVE FAVORITES!!!! WOW! We rate near the top!!!!!!!!
  • Gary T.

I knew you could do it EG. You have talent. Also my wife chewed me out for calling you so early in the morning. I told her you E-mailed me! Isn't the video great!
  • NavyDads Admin (Paul)

great minds must think alike...I was going to download PrintKey 2000 and take screen shots to post to show everyone how chat worked now...man oh man...beat me again............

good day E.G. Just wanted to drop you a line to say James has started to settle in at B.C. and thank you for the support you have given. It has been much appreciated. We got a phone call from James this A.M. and he is sounding good. Some troubles with a few individuals, but he just keeps his mouth shut and ignores them.He said that he is firearms p.o. or something like that,so he is starting to feel right at home!lol. He said something about possibly being a r.p.o. whatever that requires.I know what the initials stand for, just not what the jobs or responsibilities entail.
Well thanks again and we'll chat at ya later!
    Steve !!!!!!

    EG,

Thanks for the welcome and the kind words. I am ejoying the site and I am learning a lot about the Navy. Just when I was well versed in the Army way of doing things I have a son in the Navy. Thank you for creating the site and working to keep it up and running.

Todd is in Div 153, USS John F Kennedy. I got a treat last night, Todd's first call from Great Lakes. He sounds great and is doing very well. He, like several others I have been reading about, got his wisdom teeth taken out a few days ago.

I am looking forward to attending the PIR a month from today, April 10 is the date. Please thank your son for his service.

    See you online.

    - Hal

Hi EG, just wanted to drop you a line, a couple of weeks ago you mentioned your son being stationed in SANDIEGO and how much he enjoyed being there. Our son Bob just called to say he will be stationed at North Island Coronado, I'm not sure who was more excited, my wife and i are heading there in June, suddenly buisness has become pleasure
  • Chuck

    Hey,
How the son of the coolest father in law doing on the west coast?
  • Chuck

    EG,
Just two (my two) from our troop were in the group. This was an event that was for Eagle Scouts to present the flag for Pittsburgh's 250th Birthday. My two are in the picture with me and in the close up. Andrew is in the green hat and younger brother Adam in the yellow hat. Andrew was home on leave in October 2008 between Pensacola and Whidbey Island.
Andrew is getting along better as they saw fit to change his shift from daylight to second shift. He is with a sailor who is more of a teacher. Andrew is doing the work with an experienced sailor looking over his shoulder.
He took the 3rd class exam last week and was also attending a class on another piece of equipment. He is working on getting his leave request for Adam's high school graduation. After the leave mess up from Whidbey Island it has taken him weeks to chase down people and all changes must be sent through his sqadron commander in the middle east for final approval. Somtimes it seems as if he is pushing a rope uphill.
Adam still won't email the Coast Guard. He wants to meet face to face. That's what the email is for!!!!!! Anyway he will get going in his own time.
  • Jane

You had me rolling on the floor with laughter and Terry in a fetal position in the corner. Sweet! Now all I have to do is get my whip out. Yeehaw... Crack! Thanks for the great greeting. It is very fitting I join today as it is Paul's one year anniversary with the Navy!
  • steve

Good afternoon E.G Have a question for you. Is there any way to put a quote at the end of every message we post other than to type it every time we post? I thought i saw it here someplace, but not 100% sure.May have been on another site.
    Steve !!!!
  • steve

Good day E.G. Thanks for the comeback.I'll try the suggestion you made and see how it works. That is a different method that i never even thought of.What i usually do is have at least 2 windows going at once so as to keep up with different things on NavyDads. So i might be able to highlite from one page to the other.
James is doing pretty good now.He is figuring out what the RDC's are expecting and from what i glean from his letters he has gone into his very serious mode. He is still homesick and i suppose he will be for a while. I think it will be better once he can call or text a couple times a week once he gets out of B.C.
So far he has passed all of his inspections and his P.T. tests. Not sure if they have done their P.T.2 yet,but it shouldn't be a prob. for him. He says they are scheduled for BattleStations next Wednesday so this time next Thurs. we should know more. Keeping our fingers crossed {:-)
    Steve !!!!!
  • steve

Hey E.G first off sorry about the long winded post earlier. Also what you suggested works pretty good, thanks.

  • Cindy

Congrats, my friend! What an exciting number to reach. What are you gonnna do when you have so many members you can't run the business?! Ya know, I think, in looking at your pictures...it's the first time I've ever seen pics of you! Hope things are settling down at your place. I'm gonna try and get that darling wife of yours called. Gotta see if she's gotten any sleep this week. Congrats again. I'm so glad the dad's have a place to go as well as the mom's.
  • Brian

    EG -
Thank you for creating this, my wife found the navyfor moms site, so I did a search and found you here. I think it is great so far & I look forward to interacting with the other dads here. Ashley is going to MEPS this weekend, thats all we know for now, but she is excited. My dad was a sailor & airman, I never got the chance due to hearing difficulties when I was 18. I am proud of her & support her decision 120%.
Again - Thanks for being here....

    Brian

I look forward to chating, The way my head goes this will help greatly. Thanks for taking the step and getting this thing up and running. It's nice to have a place where us Dads can chat like N4M's
  • Mari

Thank you EG for the welcome. Yes, we are very proud to be Navy parents and belong to this wonderful extended family. I am so excited about PIR and can't wait for the moment to come. Thank you for creating this site, I have been reading some of the old posts and there is a lot of good information.
  • Mari

EG thank you for responding to my question on P'cola. I knew that they had liberty at some point but wasn't sure if they would be allowed to come home for the weekends. Thanks again.
  • Cindy

I think I've been talking to the guy who created this group on N4M's as he mentioned this site. I'm glad to know what happens should we decide to leave, though I can't imagine why anyone would want to do so. Hope you had a great week. Please tell Cindy hi for me.
  • Gary T.

    E. G., did you see the idea Cora had ref: business cards? Gary F.
  • Chuck

    EG,
    How's your family?
Andrew is doing well and is now really getting his feet "on the groud". He is getting enough OJT that he is being to get some more independent assignments. He tells me all the jargon is now starting to making sense.
  • Thomas Dozier

Thanks for the kind words about my videos. Youtube was purchased by Google and Google places ads to generate revenue. Warner M usic Group does not allow this. I guess they want a piece of the pie too, who would have thought. So its music/musicians from the Warner Music Group that gets muted on Youtube. If you give me your sons name, I'll add him to the credits on the end of the next Reagan video I make. And tell him tanks for your service for me.
    Go Navy!
  • Luis

EG good morning and Happy Easter. This picture if taken from a fellow Navy Mom who sent it to my wife. We believe that it is our son. We fly up to Chicago this Thursday since his graduation is on 4/17/09. Today he is doing Battle Stations and there are reports on NavyforMoms.com that his division won the Captain's Cup. Believe me, a full report is coming on 04/20/09 when I get back. I took off that day and will write about my experience then. Thanks again for asking my friend. Luis

Hi E.G. Have a question for you. Anything special about a Command Master Chief coin? Is it similar to what officers pass out to sailors for a job above and beyond? Thanks,Steve..
