Welcome Aboard!

My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.

My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.

My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am a member of N4M's also. I have already had many questions answered just by scanning both of these websites. It is great to have support during this time! Thanks again!
  • Aaron

Thank you for your welcome and I look forward to my time here. I'm very proud of my brother and in some parts jealous. I wanted to be in the military, but circumstances kept me from that. Thanks again
  • Mike

Thanks for the welcome and the site. It's really nice to read the comments of parents that have kids in the Navy just like I do. I'm really proud of my son. I am so happy to see him really doing something good and challenging with his life. He's 18, and the Navy is a perfect place for him to have somewere to channel all that energy! He was an honor rold student in high school, and a 4 year starter on the football team. I can't say enough how happy I am that he isn't just wasting his time away like I see that so many of his friends are. I was glad to see him want to go into the military, and now that he's in the Navy and I see what he's doing and what is in store for him, I'm even more glad and confident that he's made the right choice. Especially in these tough economic times. There just isn't anything out there for a young man or woman who has just gradutated from high school. Unless your parents are well off enough to send you to college, you're stuck in a low paying job with hardly any future, thats if you can even find one. Also, these young men and woman get discipline and a sense of self worth that no college can give them, along with a great education.

    HI EG,
Thank for the warm welcome. I am very proud of my young man as he made this decision on his own for his own reasons. This site has been so valuable to me so far already with all of the information on Basic and PIR. Thank you for creating this site for all of us Dad's to use and share our stories about our sailors. I look forward to helping those who come after me with my experiences.

Thank you so much for all you do for this site and the time it took to get the package together and sent off for the USS Bainbridge. Both my daughters are on ships and I know how much it means to them to get a package from home. I send plenty for them to share with others and everyone soooo appreciates it!

Thanks EG, for the comment on my video, It took a while to figure out how to put it all together, since it was my first time of movie making.
We all had a great time on the Cruise of course, too bad you didn't get to go.

I know Paul, Fred and I really tried to recruit as well, hopefully it paid off.

Thanks. My son just graduated last Friday from Great Lakes Boot Camp. Our weekend was great. Thanks again for starting this site and your support for our son's and daughter's serving this great nation.
  • Todd Gaudin

Thanks for the welcome. I hope to share some of the stuff I have learned since my son joined the Navy 5 years ago and re-enlisted last year. He's in his last year of sea duty and hopefully he will get a good shore assignment as he now has a family and they just bought a home. Hopefully I'll get to do my third Tiger Cruise later this year when they come back from deployment. Thanks again!

Thank you for your kind words and also for providing this site for us. Very informative! My wife Linda (former Marine and retired Air Force) is a member of Navy for Moms and visits that site daily. We received our first phone call from Jason yesterday and needless to say, it was great. He's in his 3rd week and is settling into a routine which I know at first was a big shock. He said that "there are some things that aren't on the recruiting videos!" Got a kick out of that one. All in all, he said everything is going well and he has no regrets. Thanks again for your service !

Thank you for creating this wonderful websight! It will be very helpful in the coming months and years. Thanks to all the young men and women serving today. Happy Mothers Day to all!

Hello! It looks like the "Navy Insignias" link no longer works. It was a really helpful link. Do you think you could investigate where it went?

    Thanks!
  • Mike Davis

    EG,
Thank you for the information. my wife found the N4M and that is how I found your site.
with little than a week before he leaves for recruit school, Kyle is getting more nervous by the day. we live in a small town, kyle tried the college thing, he hardly made the first semester. so this will be something "WE" (his mom & I) hope he will stay with.
    again thanks for the welcome.
To all of the MOM'S --- HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!
  • John Div 930 Dad

    Thanks for following up.

Mike graduates 12 Jun and seems to be doing well. He was away for a year and a half at the University of Missouri before enlisting, so we are used to him being away. This is a new journey, though, and my wife and I talk about it and him each day. We also have three younger ones to keep us busy!

Thanks for all you do to keep this site going!
  • Kirk Brooks

Thanks so much for this site. This is such an upside down time for me. I already miss her so much but I'm also so excited for her. I'm very proud to see her making such positive, quality, decisions. It's going to be very rewarding to see her future successes. Thanks again

    EG,
While I was in San Diego this past weekend, we took a tour of the USS Midway. From there I took several pictures of the Reagan and Nimitz. Even though the weather was overcast and misty, the pics turned out fairly well. If you would like, I can email them to you. Billy and I also went over to Coronado Island and drove along side of where the two carriers were. Billy didn't stop, so I couldn't get any close-up pics. We had a great time together and received an unexpected invitation to go aboard Billy's soon to be home (Howard). We were welcomed aboard by the Chief who overseas the ET's and IC's and given a personal tour of nearly the entire ship. I think I was more excited about it than Billy was. It was one of the most memorable Mother's Day I'd ever had.
Hope all is well with Evan. Let me know if you want me to send those pictures.

Hi EG and thank you for the welcome.I left a message on the store portion of this site, hoping some one can help me.As I said, my grandson has enlisted and should be graduating around November if I'm not mistaken. My problem is,I'm trying to find the Dont Tread on Me (Gadsen Flag) like the one besides Tonys name.I remember seeing it for sale on a site but haven't been able to find it again.I remember they said each one would be flown aboard a ship for one day,It's supposed to be of fine quality and the cost was $59.ooI want to get it for my grandson's graduation. He is a fine young man and I couldn't be prouder.I hope this isn't an imposition to you.I f you can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks and thank your son for serving. Jim BB Stacker

  • Chuck

    Hey! What's up with Evan??
  • Chuck

Between last week and this week Andrew is finally getting to meet his squadron. They are coming back from the Middle East in several flights over the two weeks. It will be the same job with almost all new people. Sometimes the people are the worst thing to get used to. The first batch contained a group about the same rate as Andrew who have a knack of getting into trouble and a petty officer that seems to believe in punishing everyone when a few cause a problem. I am sure Andrew will work through these areas of life.
He is playing soccer with his temporary command. 2-0 record and the only undefeated team so far, but the season has just started. He bought a car and now has means to explore the island of Oahu. Andrew has a good roommate who is also a good friend. Al and all things are good mix with the occasional bad days…Like every other job.

I'm more than happy to help out any time. I'll try my best to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. Sean and I are in the same office so if I don't know things he can help and vice versa. Thanks for starting this site. It's such a great tool to help out those worried parents.
  • Rich Zahara

EG, Thanks for the welcome aboard. Paul is a AO3, Petty Officer stationed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln(CVN72) in San Diego. As you know they returned from deployment in October. I was fortunate to meet him in Hawaii and return to San Diego on the Tiger Cruise. He is signing up for his second 4 years and his younger Sister by 1 year is now considering joing also. It will be a great honor to have them both serve in Navy.
  • BYRON LAKE

Thank you. I look forward to reading the postings.

Thanks for creating this site!! Us "moms" on N4M are a bit much to handle...lol..so I'm glad the dads have a place where they can chat and share about their recruits. I'm learning alot from both websites! Thanks again :)

Thanks for the welcome aboard, EG. Josh is an ABH on the Iwo Jima out of Norfolk. They were one of two ships moored in NYC for Fleet Week this year and what a treat to be around so many fine young men and women. I am on the ship's store committee for our reunion group so I'll be glad to assist you in that endeavor if needed.

Gee...what service! Let your wonderful wife know that Morgan passed his pig test and loved it. All I have to say is ewww. I can give more gory details if wanted. Fortunately, the pig was out the whole time! Morgan told me he learned more yesterday than he did in the classroom. Sounded a lot like Battle Stations. His 'graduation' is this morning. They were told that 95% of them will probably be reassigned. He's hoping to be one of those. Since he didn't get his first wish. He wants to be with a regiment of marines that are on a ship. They patrol the sea, then go on land for a couple of weeks (Afghanistan), back to patroling...etc. Glad to know you are doing well.
  • Roger Eckenroth

Thanks EG for the welcome. Please pass our appreciation on to your son for his service and for protecting our freedoms. I think this is a great site also.

Hi E.G How are things on your side of the world?Good i hope.Things around here are pretty much the same as always.Coming into summer so time for me to hybernate away from the heat as much as possible!
Just wanted to drop you a line to see if you ever got those cards i sent your way.I sent them about 4 weeks ago,so they should be there.I received the other thousand and all in all i now have about 1250 so i was thinking about sending Paul some and seeing if any of the folks on Navydads would like to have some.Talk more later.

Good morning E.G. Not a problem.I have been pretty busy here the last month or so between work, baseball and animals i kept meaning to ask,but kept forgetting when i did get a chance to get on .
The name of the company is "Got Print.com) I just sent them the file that Paul gave me and they changed the format a little to make it work for their system and you have the end results.I posted my e-mail in the discussions section inviting the parents to send me an e-mail with their address and i will send them as many as they like.I have one envelope going out in the morning with some in it.
James is doing good.He called yesterday to let me know that he has 10 and a wake-up.Don't know if he will finish tops in his class, but he should be in the top 2,but then that is just a guess. After graduation he'll be home for 2 weeks and then back to Gulf Port for 8 weeks of ECS,then off to his duty station. He is trying to end up on the west coast.
Kris hasn't forgot about making a screen saver with the Navydads logo either. They have been in the process of buying a house so he hasn't had much time to work on extra projects lately although he has done a bit on it.Plus he started classes online for a 4 year degree in network administration.
I bet you will be glad when the store is up and running. How long does Evan deploy for?Is it 3months or 6.I never can remember.Well i have been long winded enough.Tell everyone hi and i will try to stay in a little better communication.

    Navydads Creator,
Thank you so much for your very warm welcome. I'm also a mom on N4MS. I am thirsty for information regarding my sons new life. I enjoy sharing and learning to support my babyboy of 4 children. I see you have several groups that I have joined that I will be willing to share in and ask questions. Again, thanks for the welcome. Have a great week.
