Welcome Aboard!

My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.

My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.

My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

Hi EG, I ordered some T-shirts for myself and my wife and got them yesterday afternoon. They're really nice! Thanks for shipping them out so quickly. I'll be so proud to wear it around.
Thanks again for setting up this site. I've already connected with another dad that has a child on the same ship (different div) in boot camp with my daughter. Bob Dixon

Thanks for the welcome aboard. Our PIR is 9/3 and the closer it gets the more nervous and excited we get. We are so proud of our son for making this decision.I was not in the military however if I could go back and do it all over again I would. It has been a long six weeks for us.We didnt know what to expect because no one on either side of the family had ever served in the military.Well my dad was in the navy in the 60`s but he passed away in 90,so we didnt ever hear any navy stories.Navy for moms has really helped us answer alot of questions.I wish I would have looked for this site sooner.Again thanks for the welcome aboard and I look forward to becoming more involved with Navy For Dads.

Thanks for your comments of support. I will tell Garrett of the Navy Dads best wishes.
  • Brad

By they way, I expect a lot more pics from the GW's tour when Garrett gets to his home port in Japan and he can get to his computer to upload them. They are expected back within the week I think!

Thanks for the welcome, EG. My son Mark is at RTC and is scheduled to graduate in October. He will then go to A school in San Antonio for MA training. Mark's sister lives with her husband at Ft. Hood, he is a Cav Scout for the 6-4 Cavalry, 1st Infrantry Division and just returned from Afganistan. Mark is glad he will have some family close-by while he is in Texas. Thanks to you for putting in the time and effort to provide this resource. I know I will have many questions in the near future, and hopefully I will be able to answer some as I gain experience as a Navy Dad.
  • Wirt Epling

Thanks for the welcome, EG. This Navy thing is very new and exciting for me. I was in the Army and my dad is retired Army . . . so I'm just getting settled into being a part of this Navy world. I appreciate your website (and those that maintain and contribute to it) and look forward to learning more and sharing when I think I can add some value somewhere.
  • Paul Ray Barstad

Thanks for the welcome. I am very new to this type of communication and to military protocol having never served in any service. Mark is my step-son so he has a different last name but perhaps that doesn't matter here, it certainly doesn't to me. I am sure once I get used to this website I will find it very helpful. It will be good for me to understand the atmosphere in which Mark resides. I do worry about him and his new duties in Iraq. Thanks again for making me feel welcome.

Thanks for the welcome ! While I am no dad and nor am I enlisted yet ...I am taking my asvab soon. I am eager to learn the "ropes" of the Navy life through everyones stories...........and possibly avoid some pitfalls from them as well. I am 34 single w/ no kids enlisting as a E-4 . I am leaning towards the Aviation side or IT. Hope to be chatting with you all soon and maybe I will see your son out there !
  • Murphy

Thank you for your kind words. I have already learned a great deal and look forward to the experience.
  • Richard Paul Minnich

Thanks for putting this site together. I know I'm going to get a lot out of it. It has been tough letting our baby go...but I know that the Navy will do great things for her. I can't wait to admire the changes.
  • Harley John Medeiros

Sorry it took so long to respond I had forgoten I had found this site late one evening. Like you my son in law serves on the Ronald Regan he is in the medical area in charge of substance abuse. He only has about three years to go and has his twenty in. I could not be prouder of his commitment than if he were my own son. My God protect your son and mine
  • Charles "Mike" Boyett

Thanks EG,, and Thanks for starting such a great site,, it had crossed my mind to do something like this from time to time,,but did not have any expertise on how to do it. So this is great. As I write this my son is in Afganistan with SoCom, In support of operations there as their Comm Tech. I did pretty much the same in the Air Force, in fact when my son was on Okinawa he worked at one of the places i dealt with often as an Air
Force Comm Tech,,that was the Awase Facility,, I also worked with the Navy guys at Tori Station, but that was long ago.
Im so glad to hear from all those that have sons and daughters in the Navy, I dont know if the Air Force has a site like this for AF Moms and Dads. I wonder. Anyway,,again my many Thanks

I would love to get a copy of your Video "Do I Make you Proud" I am giving a speech to several hundred city chamber of commerce official. I would love to conclude a "salute to the Navy" speech with your video. I am a CDR in the U.S Navy. vincent.d.garcia@navy.mil
  • vince garcia

Thanks for you message you left on my board. I was very pleased to find this site. You should be proud of your son. Working on an aircraft carrier is hard but rewarding work. I was assigned on USS Carl Vinson a decade ago. It was an awesome experience.
  • Roger Ravenstad

Thanks EG, look forward to the group comments.
  • Doreen Smith

Thank you for welcoming me in the site im so proud of our boys and girls

    Thanks EG

I joined to learn a little more about the Navy and try to get help with some of my concerns. Our youngest went to boot camp in April and just graduated Corp School last week. It has not been a very smooth ride. He has been sick for 5 months and does not seem to get anyone who has a concern about his health. On top of that after graduation he was one of only two graduates that did not get to leave for a couple of weeks before heading to their next assignment. He has been placed on HOLD and no one seems to be able to tell him why or when he will get to leave. So in short, he's stuck in Great Lakes, sick and on hold with no idea if he will even get to go to his first assignment. Don't mean to be a "downer" here, but, it is just the way it is for him. I'd love for someone with a little Navy experience to tell me something constructive (other than welcome to the Navy) to help him out. So, anyone with similar issues I would love to hear how you overcame them.
  • Greg Scott

    EG,
Thank you for welcoming me aboard, When I speak with Brody I will be sure to tell him Thank You, he is currently 2 days into boot camp, so it will be a couple of weeks before we get a chance to speak. This is such a great adventure for him, we are so proud.
  • Chuck

Just an update on the second son. Adam is taking his ASVAB right for the coast guard. If he scores high enough he will be scheduled for MEPS to get his physical.
I see lot of comments about waiting for A school. According to Adam's USCG recruiter they have about cut in half the yearly number of recruits for the fiscal year 2009. Adam was told that he could not expect to be sent to boot camp prior to October 2010.
  • Alex S

Thanks for the welcome aboard. I am sure I will find this site useful. We all have questions with not many answers . This site I know will help. Thanks for starting it.
    Alex
  • Kevin Ballenger

Thanks EG, Gotta tell ya, the first two weeks were tough without Alex. I'm not sure who its tougher on, the recruit or the parents. I guess I never really talked to my parents about me going into the Navy 6 mos after graduating high school. It had to be tough on them, too.. The reason I joined was because of the letter of the Thom Tipul. Hopefully I was able to give him some insight as to what the first 3 weeks of his recruit's life will be like and what they can do. Its still not going to make it any easier, though..
  • Nick Kokenzie

Nicholas had his pass in review on Sept.25th. I am very proud of him. He was grad and go so I only had a short time with him. He is currently at Lackland AFB in his A school for MA. He called me Saturday after he had completed his OC training. He sounded good for being in a lot of pain. I have his cell number and email and will be staying in touch often. Thanks for this site, I told my son about it.
  • Brian

I think this site is a great thing. My son grew up on my stories of the Navy and was determined to go in. I was so proud at the graduation that I thought my shirt buttons were going to pop. Starting this site was a great thing and I appreciate it very much.
  • Reginald Hughes

Thank you for your comments. I'm happy to see that this site is available. I know that there are a lot of questions that people have, who have either never been involved with the Navy, or who have been out for a while. As we know, it is constantly changing. By the way, I'm also stationed out here in San Diego. But alas, I am on my way out the door with retirement, and no more sea duty for me. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to joining a lot of the groups.
  • Randy Bloom

Thank you for the welcome, I will get more active here in a few days, I'm really glad to find this web site, to help answer some of my questions, and I will give some more back ground on Jesse...
  • Pete Smith

After I choked back the huge lump in my throat, I realized I was not alone. Definitely recognize all the Chicago pics. Case is on the Nimitz now, I hope, been a quiet few days, but not before he paid the Great Lakes dues....I'll post a few pics after I find a tissue. Wow, how lucky we are, to have raised such brave an honorable men.

  • Renee Wolff

Thank you! Your comments are very much appreciated! My "grape" located in the middle of this picture joined up in April of 2008 and is nearning the end of her 2nd deployment. We are very proud of her. The family is all going to hook up for a vacation in Hawaii mid-November. We have not seen each other in almost a year. Renee
  • Keith

Thank you very much. Casey is AD in Norfolk, Va. with the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Two Six (HSC-26), he's been in about a year and a half. Karah's PIR is this Friday, she's IS and A and C school will be in Dam Neck, Va.
  • dean warkenthien

Thanks for the welcome EG. Thought i would join in like my wife does on N4M. Devin is still in gunners mate a school, learning a ton and looking forward to his first post. He is hoping to get riverine orders, but is excited to go anywhere he has to. He would prefer a destroyer job if no riverines available. We cant wait to see him over the hoidays.
  • Cindy

Hellooo Mr. EG! I hear the swine flu is quite heavy on the Regan. How is Evan? Did he make it home for a visit?
  • Cindy

Good to hear from you! I bet Cindy is just flying around there getting things ready, favorite food ingredients bought. Jesse's probably so excited she can't sit still. Your poor wife will have to deal with me more when Morgan deploys. Morgan's in the desert of 29 Palms right now. He's been there for a week and will be there for another week or two. You can tell Cindy that the "wedding" has been moved up to next month. We are all praying and believing that it won't take place. If we can drum up the moola, we're going to be there. Another reason for going is a sailor we've known since PIR is deploying on the 17th of Nov. He has a wife, two kids and a newborn. Would love to see him before he heads out. Kelson has had a great change in his life. He accepted the Lord, was baptized, and is a much different kid. Won't know anything until April. She'll understand that one, too! I'm so glad you all get to see Evan. I was showing Martin his picture last night on Navy Outfitters. I wanted him to see Cindy's t-shirt she designed. He liked it. How long will Evan be home?
  • Cindy

Mr. Creator...opps...maybe I should write that in lowercase! Mr. creator, can you please tell me why my son always looks about 10' tall and his car looks like one of those ugly cars imported from England? Also, why is my Navy Seal so long and narrow? Both N4M's and Navy Dads site look like that whenever I log in. Does yours do that or am I just 'special'?
  • Michele

EG & Family - Thank u for this wonderful site :). My son isn't in the Navy now but I will never forget the blessings u gave my family & I. I wish u all continued success & many blessings from God!
  • Ricky Wong

Hi EG, thx for you insigt and dedication to put this big family together.
  • Doug Weaver

Well to be honest one thing Chase has worried about is our current Commander in Chief and the effect he may or may not have on the 'Armed Service's'. I personally think his questions and concerns are valid but he never thought about not serving and I agree with him in his choice and I applaud.
  • Jim

Thank you for this website, it's great.
And thank you to your son for his service to this great country.
We are very proud of our son serving in the US Navy.
God bless our troops and their families.
  • Mark

Thank you for the message. This is all new for my wife and I and we appreciate the comforting words and messages from the Dads on your site.
  • MVB

Thanks for the note. Joshua is very excited about his future with the Navy and we are excited to watch his progress. This is a journey that has been filled with all sorts of second hand information. I am thankful for your site and look forward to connecting with other parents whose brave young men are testing to be Navy SEALS.
  • Paul

Thanks for the welcome. This is awsome way to communicate, and to keep up to speed on things with our young adult's new adventures.
  • Robert Stanley

Thank You EG for the site to keep in touch with all. I am the most proudest Dad and American on this site. Every American needs to experience what my wife and I did. 6 days from Pearl Harbor to San Diego on the USS Ronald Reagan, 2009 Tiger Cruise. I have been humbled by a bunch of young Navy Dudes and Dudettes! An honor that will never be matched again in my lifetime. All of the sailors in 4W have been adopted. Gunner was a true example of what a person can achieve. I wish him God's blessings on his up coming birth of his daughter. As for our sailor, I will forward your thoughts. Keep the sails trimmed and bail when ya have too!
  • JimmyMoss

Thanks for the welcome to Navy Dads. My family and I experienced PIR with our son last Friday. What an awesome ceremony - so very impressive. Nobody does it like the Navy!! We spent a great weekend with our son, Joey. We were also able to spend time with Joey at the Atlanta airport on his way to A school in Pensacola. Mom is much happier now that we can communicate with Joey. The adventure continues....
  • Carla Lee

Thank you for the warm welcome and for all you've done and are doing for those of us that need a place to gather and share.
  • steve raczkowski

    thank you EG
just recieved Steve's ship div#s from recruiter he seemed surprised to already have them. Im off to send my first letter now.
thanks again for all of your support.
    Steve sr.
  • Anthony M. Collins Sr.

Thank you for that special welcome. And for creating this!! I can't believe how many folks have asked me to thank my son for his service since more have found out he graduates soon. This site has been very helpful in the very short time I've been able to navigate through it. I am anxious as well as apprehensive about PIR. Sitting with the brass will feel special in itself, but I can't wait to see my boy in uniform! Thanx again.
