Welcome Aboard!

My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.

My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.

My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

Thanks for your hearty welcome! We just received our second letter from her yesterday as I expected. A bit shorter than the first, but much more interesting on all she has to put up with and the adjustments she is having to make. One of her most common comments is how good the food is! Though she does not go into explantation, which we will have to prod her for. But for the most part, she is doing her physical training and getting through it just fine. I will return here soon, and again Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless all you Nany Dads! Thomas Schneider

EG, thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it! Also, thanks for creating the website. I have already found it very informative and helpful. Happy Holidays to you and family and a special thank you to your son for serving and protecting us.
  • Mitch Madruga

Thanks EG. I always envisioned my son following in my footsteps and joining the Army. He would attend Jump School and I would watch him make his final jump. I would then have the honor to pin his "second generation" jump wings onto his chest. He would then attend Ranger School and I again would have the honor to pin his Ranger Tab on. I didn't push him to enter the military at all and he made this choice all on his own. I must say I couldn't be prouder of his decision even though he chose the Navy. Lol.
  • Mitch Madruga

Oh, and thank you for starting this site. As my parents told me when I was in the Army, precomputers, the worst part was not knowing ANYTHING. You have given us something the generations before us didn't have......knowledge that we are not alone and the ability to find out what is and what will occur. Thank you.
  • Dan (Zach's Dad)

Thank you sir for starting this site.. it has so far answered alot of our questions, and N4M has also! I am an Army Airborne Infantry vet, and when they were all talking this PIR stuff, I immediately was shocked.. my son didn't tell me that the Navy had a Parachute Infantry Regiment!! heheheh brought great laughter to our family to know it meant PASS IN REVIEW!!! LOL!!! :)
  • carolinagurl

Thank you for the welcom EG, it is great you started this site for Dads, they were infiltrating N4M's LOL. We love the dads over there, we have fun with them :)
  • Robert Hofmann

Thanks EG! I am very glad that I joined this site, as I have gained much from reading everyones comments and suggestions. We are off to Chicago tomorrow for Bootcamp Graduation on Friday. I look forward to getting involved with the site, and groups.

    Regards, Robert

    EG,
What is the latest on Evan?
  • Joel A. Ortiz

(EG) you're welcome was appreciated. Though I started off browsing Navy mom's as you, I did not end up creating a Web Site ! If I were wearing a hat it would be "hats off to you" for this awesome Web site for Navy Dads.

The holidays are a crazy time for our sons and daughters to be off fulfilling their dreams; a consolation is that PIR comes around in the first month of the new year; a wonderful way to start the new year. I have to go check the forum topics to see if anyone has posted what to expect during Christmas.

Thanks again, I look forward to getting to the wealth of information that abounds within, as you have many respected fathers and sailors each with their respective insights. Joel

    Paul,
Please pass this message along....... For those of you that haven't heard about it, check out Daddy dolls.com ( 0r mom) it is a precious inexpensive gift that means the world to the children left behind by a parent. They can hear the parents voice and have a mini me!
  • sean mcaleer

Thanks EG for your support. Currently Alex in stationed at Camp Leatherneck as a Seabee. He found a live IED and got stabbed by an insurgent all in the same week. And believe it or not it all happened within the confines of his base!! There is a war going on that most of us don't even know about.
  • Honor, Courage, Commitment

EG, thanks for the reply and forming this site. Appears to be a little less streeful then NavyforMoms (LOL)...lots of candle lighting and spirits over there. Always proud to serve and thanks for sending us your young ones into today's military and in our care. If there is anything I can answer for you, please let me know.
  • Brian Cook

    EG,
Thank You for putting this site together, I have already found out some really good pointers for My Son's PIR. My Wife belongs to Navymoms and She has found that site helpful as well...I am glad to have a place for the Dads to go to. Again Thanks.. Brian
  • Steve Whatley

Thanks for getting this thing started. We received our first call from Steven today-very unexpected at the least to be getting one this soon. He was upbeat but could barely speak due to all the screaming. Hang with us as neither i nor my wife have learned what all the initials stand for, but we will learn quickly. I look forward to seeing/hearing more from you and the other dads that have their sons/daughters serving our country. Once again, thanks for starting this.
  • pgmarx

Thanks. My son was just notified he was accepted to the UnivofSoCal NROTC program. We are processing the medical applications, but we are trying to figure out what comes next?

I recently went to my video on You Tube and they deleted the whole soundtrack which were only snippets or one liners of about 12 songs. Copyright crap.
If I purchased the songs, why can't I use them? the whole video makes no sense now.
  • Dan Burch

Thank you for the welcome. Mywife and I were in Hawaii 5 yrs ago and got to see the Reagan on its first voyage and really thought that was great. We took pictures of each other in front of it as it was docked near Pearl Harbor. Never imagined our son would be serving 5 yrs later. These young men deserve our praise! Right now he's bored as they await ship repairs but are going out on a sea trial soon so he's excited about that as he's only been on ship a little over a month.
  • Dan Burch

Worked just fine so not sure what happened before. Maybe it was a bogus member as I haven't been able to locate them on the member page.
  • Luis

Hey EG, I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!. Got internet service at home again. How's everything? My son is now stationed at the Jacksonville Naval Station (4-5 hours from home). He starts school this February and will then be part of the P-3 Orion squadron. He told me that his squadron will be the second to service the newest model.

He is doing better then when he was in Pensacola. As always I am a Proud Navy Dad. Take good care and God Bless. Luis
  • Vernon A. Kelly

Thanks you for starting this site. I'm sure it will be a tool for so much information that we can learn from. Again thanks.

Thank you for this site, I am so proud of my son, I have two older sons as well, both are married as Kris is. His brothers have been so impressed by him that they are trying to join up also. They are not able to be Navy but they are not letting that stop them. They are starting the process to join National Guard. I am a very proud dad to say the least. Kris graduates boot camp Feb. 26th. his baby will be born any day now, we are so excited about his choice for his future.

Did you hear that they had a small earthquake due west of Chicago, early this morning? It was a 3.8! mild , compaired to the ones out Calif.way! If my son felt it he probably thought the RDC was coming to get him! Busy here in the 'Burg ( Pittsburgh,Pa) Shoveling snow , we got dumped on ! Not as bad as DC. or Philly, feel bad for 'em....Thanks again EG

Love the changes you've made. I know it's been awhile since I've been here but you and Cindy are never far from my thoughts. I did take over the Idaho Moms Group as of yesterday. Don't know what I'm in for, but I'm sure it'll be interesting.

Please tell Cindy and the kids I said hello. Miss hearing about your daughter's adventures. One of these times your wife and I will have about 2 or 3 hrs to sit and chat.
  • Chris Kramer

Good post. I am the son of a Navy WWII pilot and I am the Dad of one. I am very proud of him. He will soon been graduating and his PIR is set for 3/5. I will be checking for tips before I go to PIR, but I have already learned that getting a hotelmotel with a kitchen will allow us to cook some home cooked meals for him.

I will add more when I go online again.

    Kudos for doing the website!

    Chris

Thank you so much and for a wonderful site. I might be the Aunt but he is more like the son I never had. He shipped out to basic on the 11th and is on Ship 4 Div 809. He's going for the Seals program. This takes a lot of getting use to as he enlisted last year on the DEP. Time went by fast. I thank God I have a place to come and share stories and be with other families. Thank you for all of your loved ones service.
  • Ed Smith

Thanks for the message. We are very proud of our son. He is currently assigned to the USS Eisenhower as a air traffic control approach officer. He was commissioned in November 2009 as a Ensign through the LDO program. His mother and I went to the commissioning ceremony and that is really something to see all those young men and women who are serving our nation. It was really an honor and privilege to be with them.
  • Richard Scherman

Thank you for the welcome and for the site. Currnetly Alex is in Florida waiting for his A school... I guess that he has bit of a wait ahead of him as quite a few people are there ahead of him. We just spoke this past weekend and I can't wait to hear from him again. He is going to be picking up a laptop soon so chattng should not be too far out of the picture.
