Thank you for the warm welcome. I joined NavyDads to clear up some questions i have about my future in the Navy and I'm glad to know that you can help me out. I am actually a future sailor in DEP and I leave in two months for Basic. My rate is AW or naval aircrewman. If you could send me to someone who knows about this rate I would greatly appreciate the help. Again, I thank you for you kind welcome to NavyDads and I hope your grandson is doing well.

Thank you for the welcome!  I have already started getting answers and so glad that I found this site.  Looking forward to being connected to others that are deaing with the same things.  Mark is in the DEP program and we have had a year to prepare, but now that the time is drawing closer it is hard to keep a dry eye.  Even though he is so grown up it is hard to see him go!  Thank you again and looking forward to sharing Marks adventures with everyone.  Theresa

  • William Plato Henson JR

Thank you for the warm welcome, my only concern now is how often I will get to see him as the recruiter lied to us big time. We understood he would have 3 to 30 days after boot camp to come home but when he left yesterday they told us he most likely would go straight from boot camp to school in Fla.

  • Bob Holmes

    Thanks Grandpa273,

I'm just now starting to get into the swing of things. Bobby swore in about three months ago in San Diago and will ship out to Great Lakes in September. I'm just starting to get the lingo down. I'll have a bunch of questions. First, I'll rumage through this site so I won't ask the same thing that everyone else has.

    Let the learning curve begin,

    -Bob

  • Joe Wienski

Thanks Grandpa 273! I'vs probably been on every site that the Navy has to offer regarding boot camp, A school and corpsman. It does become addicting. lol

Thanks for the welcome and thank you to all of your family members for their service. My grandson left for Great Lakes on July 13th. He spent 4 years in high school Navy ROTC and plans to make a career of the service. He is slated for "A" school after graduation and then off to Nuke school. Very Proud!!
  • Chrisy Myers

Thanks for your kind comments and welcome. This site has lots of great info and it's nice knowing there are so many other people in the same "boat"!  My son is an Ensign on his 1st deployment in the Med. Sea. He left 5/20/11 and was due back late Dec but recently found out his deployment has been extended 38 days. I'll sure miss him this Christmas but the most important thing is he stay safe and focused. Thank goodness for email/FB!
  • Chrisy Myers

So true and funny. Writing in pencil and being prepared for it to change at the last minute, but I guess that's the beast of the job. National security is never too static!
  • Tex

Thank you for the kind welome.  My son PIR'd in Feb of this year and has been in Goose Creek, SC since then. He is scheduled to graduate A school on 8/19/11, which is still honestly iffy- he has made it this far - hoping he can pull it off!

  • Teri A.

Hey - thanks for dropping me a line. You've got to be very proud of your Grandson. Wes was home for ten days - after finishing his training in Florida as a CT. He came home on leave  last month for the first time in a year. Man - did I miss him! He's now stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He and his buddy got an apartment together, and having a great time. Thanks again for writing, and for the info. in regard to this site!

Thank you  its my first child in the military I am a green horn.

Hi ya...5 yrs ago, my son was a recruit. Since he has been in, he  has been deployed 4 x's, has help build wells and a school in  and a medical  clinic in Cambodia, During his first deployment, he was in charge  of safety and security on the base, and  he  has learned alot of things. I think he  is better qualified  than some  of the licenced  electricians  in the area where I Live. But that's  just a proud mom  talking. I wish  I had  1/3  of the support when I went into the reserves 31 yrs ago  that i gave my son when he went in. I am so very  proud of him. I am hoping  that my youngest  decides to go in when he  is old enough. But that will be his decision. I  just wish I  could have received the dental training I  was going after.. but I guess  it was not meant to be. The Army  hasn't been as  good to me as the NAvy  has been to RJ. I  just wish his grandpa could have seen him in his Navy  uniform. But Dad died 3ys before my son graduated from boot camp. I know he  is smiling down from  heaven though. Rj  re-upped before he left on his last deployment. Well you have a nice nite

  • Oscar Zuniga-Hernandez

Grandpa, Thank you so much for the welcome, my daughter just signed her contract today, and , well very happy for her and a bit sad since she will be away for some time.  but than again, its for her own good and the good of God and Country, right? Anyhow, I am getting acquainted with this site and am going throe as much as can and learn what she is going to go through in the eight weeks after August 30 so, thank you for the tips and should let you and everyone know how things go with her after August. We will be in touch.

    Oscar.

  • Jack Pratt

GP, thanks for the welcome. this is a great site, and I hope that in addition to getting help here, I might be able to lend some also.

Thank you for your reply to Toto.  I did not understand exactly what he was saying - I don't know if I am the "ill minded father" of if it is the gov't, but it was very disturbing.

I have 1 son in workup with his team  for deployment and another who is in the processes of being DEP'ed in for SEAL.  Toto's last e-mail was equally offensive to me – If, God forbid, My son’s have to pay that price – I would not want to hear someone say it may be in vain!

My God protect your grandson, my sons and all SEALS.

  • Brian C. Johnson

Thanks for your support and encouragement! My daughter doesn't report to boot camp until January 11, 2012 but until then I will do my level best to prepare her for the shock and awe of it all!

  • Brian C. Johnson

This site is indeed an excellent resource and already paid dividends with the RTC training guide PDF which I was able to download and will read! I will also pass a copy on to my  future sailor daughter. Thanks!

  • Everett J. Arnold

Many thanks for the welcome, appreciate that very much. Pretty excited to have a Son be a part of the Navy.

  • Steve Hutcherson

Thanks....this site is going to be my best friend for the next few months.

  • KTR

Thanks. Been lurking for a while. Interested in finding others whose kids are shipping out February 06, 2012 (02/06/12)

  • Glenn

Thanks for the welcome, Grandpa. Good to be here. I'll probably ask more questions once my son has departed and I know he won't be sneaking looks at my questions and the answers!

  • Glenn

Grandpa, my son says he'll study to be an SECF, assuming he gets through boot camp! He also got credit for signing up another recruit or two, so he's supposed to go in as an E2. He's pretty sure he'll be sent to Connecticut for training after boot camp, but I'm less sure than he is. I'm not as trusting as he is that the Navy will stick to what it said concerning future jobs.

  • KTR

Hey, gp, we're just north of San Antonio.  My son is DEP for Nukes, and very excited about it.  I am sure he will be on pins and needles by the time Feb rolls around.

  • KTR

GP, you are welcome any time.  Thanks for the encouragement.  He is in pretty good physical shape, and it appears he has a good recruiter and is keeping busy with the other DEPers in the area,

  • Steven Young

Thank-You for your support. I'm sure I will have some questions in the future, and I appreciate the support I've already recieved so far. I know I will be returning to this site quite often.

    Thanks again for your comments...

  • Graham Moore

Hi Grandpa, Thank you for the welcome, our son is halfway through his training now and he seems to coping well.........it is nice to know there is support for parents of a recruit.

  • Troy Hvidsten

Thanks grandpa 273 looking forward to the days ahead,be in touch......lol

  • Jose Deleon

Thanks gp273,  i'm impressed of how you guys welcome newbies here.  My son is coming home on the 9th from his first deployment, i'm sure he's got a lot of stories to tell.  besides being a plane captain in 54 days, he said it's a record.

  • Neil Wallace

Thanks for the welcome. Mike just graduated from the Academy and is assigned to a guided missile cruiser based in San Diego. His grandfather (my dad) put his ensign boards on his shoulders at the graduation ceremony. He is a WWII vet and former POW. Very moving moment.
