What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
I am very happy and proud that my son enlisted in the Navy. I look forward to supporting him the best I can and hope to learn as much as possible. I was very excited for him as he studied, did research and prepared to enlist. I did have mixed feelings today, he enlisted, and after many weeks of him hoping to become an Intelligence Specialist, he came home from MEPS and shared that he had enlisted as a Missile Technician. I was concerned that he had been steered into a job that might not be what he wanted. My reaction made him feel badly, I spent much of the rest of today reading up on the MT job. He states that the MEPS recruiter says in September he can reclassify to IS if there are openings but feels the MT is a better job for him. As I researched the job I learned of this site and decided to join and learn more from other fathers. My son is a wonderful young man. I am very proud of his interest and committment to enlist and make a career of the US Navy. Looking for any advice on how I can support my son and be a great Navy dad!

Greetings Bob! When my son joined the Navy I really had no idea nor a clue on what he’s about to partake in besides what I’ve seen on tv and some stories I've heard from friends and relatives who have served in the military.
However, I'm so honored and very proud of his decision to serve our great country.
From the start, I’ve perused Navy and recruiter information online and beyond but I felt that I needed more peace of mind to help keep me from worrying too much. I also wanted to hear from real people who've been around the block and folks like yourself to share knowledge and experience throughout this entire journey.
That's when I found this website while searching for answers...
