Thanks for the message and glad to be a part of this group. My stepson, Boris, is in his third week of OCS and hopes to go on to live his dream of flying jet planes!
Thanks for the email Tim. Curiosity yesterday found me searching the Web for Tiger Cruise related info and I ran across the NavyDads website. I'm prior service USAF and USNR from the '75 - '01 and retired US Government civil service '81-'04. Soon I'll be meeting my son in Pearl Harbor and boarding CVN-74 to San Diego.
Thank you for the message Tim, I appreciate your advice and I will pass along your words of thanks to the young sailor at the very first opportunity along with the thanks and good wishes of the many family and friends that are missing her and thinking good thoughts for her.
Thank you Tim. The site has already been invaluable to me and my wife. We are currently Expats living in Shanghai returning back to the States in May (after he finishes Basic). We plan to be there for his graduation ceremony in April. He will enter CTN training next. Our biggest question is (a) figuring out where to send mail and (b) when to show up for his graduation. I know this site helps with both. Thanks again.
Thank You Tim for the welcome and information. We're very excited about Kyle joining the Navy and looking forward to a great chapter in our family's history.
I appreciate your comments and there is certainly a lot of information on Navy Dads web site. I visit this site several times a day and it seems I learn something every day. I was a Navy Jr/Brat and I thought I had a good handle on going to the boot camp, I didn't. This has been a great site and I will continue to use it and tell other people about it. Thanks
Tim, thanks for the kind info...My grandson is set for IT and schedulrd for boot camp at Great Lakes...Getting all ready now... will stay in touch..Chuck Brandich
Tim, thanks for the welcome and the information. As an old salt myself I was so excited when my daughter enlisted. She will be an MA and heads for boot camp on the 18th of this month. I'm really excited for her and can't wait to see what a great sailor I know she will become. Thanks again.
Thank you for the wonderful comment!! I will be sure to check out this website! its nice to connect with family and loved one who have or had husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters who went thru bootcamp.
Thank you for the hospitality, Tim. My daughter Kelli is an Ensign aboard the missle cruiser USS Vella Gulf. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. Her husband, my son-in-law Alex, is an Ensign aboard the amphib USS New York. He is a graduate of the University of Auburn. I also have a son who is an Army MP, serving with the First Movement Enhancement Brigade in Fort Polk, Louisiana. We are extremely proud of their service to our great country. I want to reinforce my role as a supporting parent and appreciate having this site available to help in this endeavor
Hi, when my son comes back from this deployment , the Navy is going to decommision the Enterprise (50years old), so we are up in arms as to whats going to happen. My son has been with the ship since Oct.2000, but works at the mid-alantic site AIMD for the passed 8 -more years . He's an E-6,I hope he test in the fall for E-7,but I know he wants to stay in Virginia (bought a house there 4 years ago) & I know he loves what he's doing( working with his hands) at his job. I hope he gets to stay there at his job, know he will most likely get a new ship. Just hope for the best with all that are attached to the Enterprise. Big changes are going to come?.. Thanks just had to vent that out. Fay
We're from the Houston area (Katy). During Kelli's four year stay at O.U., we came to know and like the State of Oklahoma. Great State, great people!!! Awesome wrestling programs. My son Christopher (Army Military Police) was a pretty good wrestler in high school. He attended Jack Spate's Oklahoma Gold Wrestling Camp every summer. The campers from Oklahoma were well coached and worked hard. Made some life-long memories at some OU football games as a guest of the OU NROTC Cadre. I am impressed by the level of support the people from Oklahoma show our military!
Thank you for the warm welcome sir. I did find this site very comforting. Just talking to other parents of a sailor is awsome to say the least. I have found some intersting things on the site, photos, videos and much more. Thank you for the upkeep on the site, is there a place to donate to the site(paypal)? Again thank you for the time you put into this site.
Thanks for the hearty welcome guys!
I know what my son will be going through, for the most part, but i know it has to have changed some since i went through.
It is hard for me to contain my excitement for my son, knowing the fantastic travel and all the experiences he has ahead of him.
So far,he is doing fantastic and has made the transition well. He is in charge of 10 recruits. The only thing he really complains about is all the folding.
I am not worried about him. Cory was a terrific son even before joining. I know the experience will make him even better.
Thank you for your warm welcome! My son has been is now since 8/19/2011 and is on his first deployment on the USS Porter. Up until now I have been trolling the internet for any information on his where abouts. On the days I find a pic of his boat and location I somehow feel as a mom I'm keeping track of him. I'm so very proud of him and am excited about his future experiences. I miss him terribly but know the service he is providing is a great one and he has and always will have my full support! I'm thankful for your website. Every bit of knowledge, picture or article helps me cope with his absence.
Thank you for all the responses. My daughter presently is un-designated. She is a little let down because of that because the recruiter told her different. She graduated HS with honors, 3.75 but does not take tests well. Her ASVAB scores were low and that is why the job thing is difficult. She is striking for IT or PS and then taking whatever classes she needs. She is determined.
She seems to be comfortable on the ship, but is not "street smart" as some others. She tends to be naive. She has some growing to do and I am confident she will. Toby Keith is flying in by chopper on Monday for the troops on board and she is a big country fan and she is excited about that. Presently working in the hangar bay in 12 hour shifts. She hopes to be back around August.
Our son Edward has been in the for 18 years his rate is QM1. During his first 14 years he was in the Mine Counter Measures community out of Engleside, TX. During this time he also had a stint of 3 years in Roosevelt Roads, PR as a Navy Cop for his shore duty since the QM rate has no actual sea/shore rotation. While in Rosey Roads he had a chance to work with DEA and Customs and Immigration as part of his regular duties. He also got experience working with unruly civilians because the problems on Viaquez was going on at that time. While on the MCM's he had collateral duties of Counter Terrorism Office and Small Arms Instructor. The past 3 years he was with Riverene Squadron 3 out of Yorktown, VA first as a M240 gunner in the Security Force, he had a deployment to Iraq in this position. He then moved to the position of Boat Captain. During his time with the Riverene's he attended several training courses one in particular was the FBI Small Arms Instructor Course. Edward is now at Key West, FL as part of the Port Security Team. He will be retiring in 2014. After retirement he plan continuing his education.
I retired from the Navy in 1978 as an AC1. During my career I had about 6 years duty in the US My overseas duty of 6+ years was spent in Japan, Sicily and the Philippines. I had 5 years of sea duty aboard 3 carriers, 2 out of Alameda and 1 out of Norfolk, with 4 deployments to Vietnam.
Thank you for the warmth. I will make sure to check out the site. Madison just shipped out from MEPS just a week ago, this Monday, and I am very certain that she is only at the beginning of her training. I'm very excited for her and thrilled that she took on this challenge. Thank you again for bringing this kind of site together.
Thanks Tim. Bryan leaves for Boot Camp towards the end of next month and I have more questions than he has answers. :) I'm very proud of him, especially since he wants to go EOD, get his college degree and spend 20 years serving our country. So far, the site has been a great resource for answering many of my questions. Thanks again, Ken Cain
Tim, thank you for your thoughtfulness in welcoming me to the Navy Dads web site. My son Bo arrived at Great Lakes Thursday night, 5/24, and called us to let he had arrived safely. He will be going to corpsman "A" school at San Antonio after basic. Bo has a biology degree from FSU which hopefully will be of benefit in his medical training.
Thanks again for your thoughtfulness and the tremendous resource you have made available to us Navy Dads!
Thank you Tim. Today our girl was sworn in, and she is on her way to Great Lakes. So proud of her, and it's tough for her mom and me to say goodbye to our oldest. I appreciate this site and look forward to learning more from you all. I had to google Bravo Zulu, now I know. I'm "all in" to learn all about the Navy.
Thanks a lot Tim. And thanks to some of the things I've already been reading on this site, I know what BRAVO ZULU means! :) I'm sure I'll be back here a lot trying to figure out things as Shawn's enlistment moves along. I actually have two sons in the armed forces going through basic training at the moment, one is in the US Air Force bootcamp, and Shawn is in Navy bootcamp. They entered about a week apart... Of the two I know more about the Air Force, so this site will be very helpful!
That was a fantastic "welcome" Admin, Tim very well done....very nice, and gives me a good feeling as you proceeded to explain the thought process all newcomers are experiencing at this important time in their Recruit's life as well as their own.....Everyone loves to learn and it is so wonderful that all of you are here to help us green horns..... we are all Proud Americans and We will Protect Her...... Thanks again Admin, Tim and you take care of your family Seize the day ...... Sue Ann
Thanks to all for welcome. I drop my son off tomorrow in San Antonio where he will spend the night before they put him on a plane Tuesday morning for Great Lakes. Will be a sad but proud day dropping him off as he takes step into manhood.
Tim, thanks for the info. I'll be sure to give it all a look. I was an enlisted Nuc (one of the last IC's) and went on to become a Naval Flight Officer after an NROTC scholarship to the University of Florida where I got my engineering degree.
I was so proud of Matt's decision; he's doing so very well. We have received a dozen or so phone calls since he's been on the Lincoln and I can honestly say that we have not heard the first negative word. Thankful for that.
Thank you so much, Tim! My father, Fred Hanna, Jr., proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War. My older sister, Stephanie, was born at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. Daddy simply ADORED Sarah and I know he would be proud that she is carrying on the legacy of a "Hanna as a Sailor." May God Bless all who lived up to the Navy motto "Non sibi sed patriae" (Not for self but for country). Every man and woman who made the decision to join the Navy or ANY branch of our military is to be treated with the utmost respect!
Thank you for the warm welcome and kind words. My son is 5th generation military and following in his grandfathers footsteps by going navy. It was either USAF or Navy. I am very happy and proud of his decision. He will be going to A school to become a quartermaster. So again thank you for the welcome
Thank you Tim for this helpful note. I am slowly reading all the notes and comments that have been sent to me. We all can be very proud of our children for their service to this great country.
